Description

In a day and time when mental health struggles may very well be the most important battle anyone fights in the course of their life, having a path to follow to work through those issues that is free of ambiguity and medical jargon is needed. You'll find no scientific studies relating data from 40 years ago to now in this book. You will find, however, an easy to follow pathway to help create some "superpowers" to build your strength, your speed, grow the ability to fly, and even... TELEPORT! This journey needs no medicine, no high dollar therapists, and no inpatient treatment facilities. This journey will be one of introspection, reflection, progression, and growth. It is not an easy task, becoming a hero. If we do the work to obtain these powers, not only can we help ourselves in our darkest time, but we can help others along the way. This journey is not for the faint of heart. It is challenging, and it will bring us to our knees from time to time. It will be in those moments when all hope seems lost, that our newly gained superpowers will activate, and push back the villains we face in life, to become the greater version of ourselves. Join me in this journey to find peace and you will find not only new abilities, but you will grow to know the person you were always meant to be, in the form you were designed to have.

PROLOGUE:
A Backstory to Explain the Journey
"IF YOU COULD have any superpower, what would it be?" We used to ask these questions of our friends all the time when we were kids. My son, now 16, even asked me this question just a few months ago. For me, the answer is always easy… teleportation! Mostly because I hate to drive anywhere, and although I love to fly, I’d absolutely relish the ability to be where I want to be at any time, in the blink of eye.
Think about it though. Have you ever asked yourself that question? Has there ever been something you wanted so badly, that you’d undergo a major life changing event just to have? A certain green guy was overcome by gamma rays to become one of the most iconic heroes of the last three decades. A puny New Yorker went through an experimental procedure to be able to be the one to pick up the shield and run through enemies of the United States, and the world, for more than 80 years. Of course, there’s always that high school science student who was bitten by the superhero bug, eventually turning him into quite a friendly neighbor.
Let’s not forget about the ladies that jumped from the pages and the screen either. It didn’t matter if they were a warrior princess carrying a big sword or a Russian spy turned double agent, turned reluctant hero who gave her life to bring back the lives of half of the population of the inverse. Some could fly through the air with ease, zoom through the cosmos, and even force the truth from villains with the use of a mystical rope.
Regardless of the amazing powers they held within, the fear of ridicule or shame, of being different than everyone else, held each of our heroes captive in their own minds from time to time. They felt the need to create different personas, carefully crafting them in order not to draw unwanted attention from those that might want to harm them, study them, or even imprison them for simply being different. Some stayed hidden for decades, living completely "normal" and unassuming lives. Even still, trouble seemed to always find our heroes at the most inopportune time. As it was meant to be, they never hesitated, even at great cost to themselves and potentially their freedom, to spring into action when their set of abilities were needed.
Though we chose to dress as them for Halloween or even while playing pretend with our friends, it was never the outfit they were wearing that gave them the ability to help others. It wasn’t the cape and cowl, the mask, or the technology that allowed them to save the lives of so many. Deep down, at the very essence of who they were, the desire to help others came from having an innate sense of what was good and what was evil. It was this understanding that propelled our heroes forth, to do good and best the villains that stood in their path to helping the world they served find peace.
One more commonality existed for each of our heroes, one much less focused on, less talked about. That common theme between each hero that we looked to for guidance as children, and even as adults, is that they are flawed. We have looked up to the ones with powers we could only dream of, for the powers that we sought. But in our short-sightedness, we forget that each one of them have a crucial weakness that could lead to their demise. It was even as if each of those weaknesses could sap the greatest hero of their most important attribute… their powers.
It is in this moment, that the reality would set in. Is she a "wonder" without her rope? Can he really be "super" without his amazing powers? When the villains stripped our heroes of their powers completely, were they no longer the heroes we knew? Were they completely different people?
The plots always thickened and grew more treacherous, almost to the point of no return. Sure, we’ve seen the glow of the green rock, and knew that the hero was in danger. We knew that the combination of the villains was going to be a difficult challenge for the billionaire playboy/hero to overcome, even with the side kick’s assistance. We always understood that some evil mastermind would be there to stand in the way of the peace the hero was trying to help provide to the masses.
Sometimes, a hidden ability would show itself in the form of a new power the hero was never aware they had. Others saw a stroke of luck or good timing pull our heroes out of a particularly hairy situation. In the most challenging of the trials our heroes faced, we bore witness to the most dramatic and intense battles. Even though the times were hard, and the world seemed against them, one thing always rang true: no matter the trials, our heroes would always make it through. Sometimes, it would just take a couple of issues, or sequels, to help them find their way.
Our heroes’ lives, although fantastic in scope, are no different than those that we live today. Sure, we don’t have that amazing costume, but we’re all wearing masks. We all hide the truest form of ourselves to those around us, and only the closest to us know the battles we fight… many times, they don’t even know the truth. So, the question is, how do we win the battle? How do we find peace in tumultuous times? More importantly, how do we become powerful beyond measure and become our own hero?
What if I told you that the powers you’ve seen on the big screen, and pages of those colorful comic books, pale in comparison to the power that lies buried deep inside you? What if I told you, that through focus and effort, you too could finally be that hero you always wanted to be? Most importantly… what if I told you that through tapping into, and then developing, those powers, you could find peace?
Would you want those powers?
If your answer is yes, then your journey has started. There will be many paths to take to find your ultimate place of peace, and along the way, the power to create and keep that peace will grow inside you. It will not be an easy journey, as there will be many along the way that work to force you from the path. Many will not understand why we have chosen this path. Others have, and will, work to convince us that what we are working towards is useless and a waste of time. These villains will become an obstacle to defeat, and then move past.
The decision to get started is easy. While the one we make to continue down the path when it seems it’s darkest will need to channel bravery even when we think there is none. As we chart and travel our course, we all will question whether we have the power inside to continue; that will prove to be the precise moment in which we should. The most important part of this journey will be putting into action the powers we obtain. We must deploy them to help ourselves, and others. We must them for good and not for evil. If we want to truly become the hero we were destined to be, we will find ourselves working to improve the lives of those around us, and in turn, improving our own.
Much like the resurgence of the heroes we loved over the last twenty years through the cinematic universes in which they now reside, there will be continuous phases of growth. The story will be more involved and challenging. There will be wins, and unfortunately there may be losses. The hero inside you will need the strength you can create for yourself through the following pages to ultimately find that peace you are so badly searching for. Along the way, the good you will do for yourself, and others, will be undeniable.
While I will work as your guide on this journey, make no doubt about it, I am traveling the same path as you. It is my desire to help you to see that flawed men and women can still be heroes and can still make a difference in the lives of others, and in our own. Most importantly, it is my task to help you teleport all of us into a future where we are courageous and strong, and more prepared to be the hero for those that need us most. First, we must take the painful journey of building the strength necessary, to save ourselves.

Small Powers that Make a Big Difference
I
ACCEPTANCE
NOT EVEN ONE of our heroes were without flaws. It is in this simple statement that allows us all to see that we are not all that different from the ones we look to for guidance and help.
