The ancient Buddhist word for mindfulness is sati, which refers to the capacity of the mind to know. It is the awareness that arises from paying attention on purpose in the present moment non-judgmentally. developing this capacity to know experience with a nonreactive awareness leads to a staggering range of mental and physical health benefits.

Mindfulness is simply setting the intention to be present and then training your mind to come back again and again. In this meditation, we’re focusing on body sensations. So keep coming back to your body and feel it from the inside.

The top three reasons to meditate are that it lowers stress, helps you focus, and makes you a better human. Many studies have shown that meditation lowers stress levels.

When you’re able to bring your attention back to your left foot, or your breath, or even nonjudgmentally bring awareness to your thoughts, the spinning mind slows its roll and you’re able to relate to your experience in a calm and collected manner.
