#1

I struggled with my self-esteem as a young girl, and I always wondered if someone could love me. I spent a lot of my time worrying about my appearance, achievements, and what other people thought of me.

#2

The book The Universality of Yoga by Paramahansa Yogananda changed my life. It spoke to me in the words of my mother: You are more than you think you are. And you, dear reader, are more than you think you are too.

#3

Enlightenment is the experience of being fully awake and in touch with your joy and love. It is about shining light on who you truly are, beyond your perceived limitations, and tapping into the power to discover that you are so much more than your current ideas about yourself.

#4

The True Self is the stable, loving, honest, courageous, peaceful, and creative intelligence that resides in each of us. It is the Divine part of who you are. You can recognize this when all pistons are firing at the same time, when you are alert, focused, and happy to be alive.

#5

Raja Yoga, the highest path of yoga, is the practice of definite scientific techniques of meditation and pranayama (life force control) known as Kriya Yoga. It is the most effective road to experience the True Self within ourselves and the most effective path to Bliss.

#6

The teachings of Yogananda are needed more than ever. There is more anxiety, confusion, and discontent in the world than ever before. You will discover that you already embody the attributes that give you the power to enact change and create a blissful, exciting, and deeply fulfilling life.

#7

Yogananda was a monk who brought Kriya Yoga, a specific, ancient, and sacred technique of meditation, back into the world in the 1920s. He was so popular that he was invited to meet with the president of the United States, Calvin Coolidge.

#8

Yogananda’s teachings involve tapping into your energy, or prana, which directs your health, purpose, relationships, and ability to manifest. You will learn how to tap into an inner power that will help you turn your dreams into reality.

#9

Enlightenment is a state that must be experienced. We focus on this experience by contemplating and reflecting on the teachings in this book and practicing meditation.

#10

When you learn to embody fearlessness, life starts to take on a new dimension. You’ll pursue what you want with your full power, instead of sabotaging yourself with doubts. Fearlessness allows you to walk forward in a straight line through the forest of life, instead of having to constantly stop and take side routes.

#11

To be limitless and experience union with Bliss, the goal of yoga, means you must let go of your self-consciousness and your reactions to the sensations and experiences that spring up around you. You must also let go of putting all your faith and attention on what you can see with your physical eyes and what you do in your usual daily life.

#12

You can learn to trust the inner voice that is the True Self. You build that trust by spending time with it, which comes from your meditation practice and creating more stillness in your life.

#13

To be fearless, you must go beyond just thinking that the physical world is all that exists. You must tap into something bigger, an invisible world that you can access and experience.

#14

We must bravely explore our shadows, which are the parts of us that we don’t like or want to admit are part of us. As we turn on a lamp in a room, we not only see what’s in front of us, but also the corners of the room.

#15

The parts of your practice that shed light on the shadow and bring it into focus help you understand your motivations, your patterns of moving through the world, and your very self. If you can start to imagine what it would be like to be free from all of these fears, then you can start to imagine a new reality.

#16

List your fears, and then list what you are fearful of feeling. Next, write down what you would feel without any of those fears. Finally, take one step toward acting in a fearless way.

#17

Fearlessness is the foundation of freedom. In freedom lies enlightenment: when you are freed from the ignorance that you have to be scared of life, you can start to experience its most beautiful expression.

#18

When you feel the overwhelm of fear, close your eyes and locate where you feel it in your body. Focus on that area of your body and breathe in and out slowly. Don’t think or analyze the fear, just feel it. After letting it run its course, you can open your eyes and then figure out the best action or step to take.
