Description

Occult influences march freely across the American landscape today. From Pokemon cards and Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Marilyn Manson and psychic hotlines, the nation is under siege. Occult beliefs--presented as the path to enlightenment and peace--permeate our society, powerfully influencing our children, our neighbors, our government, and even our churches. Cindy Jacobs reveals the deadly impact of Satan's dominion over the media and the resulting rise in violence and immorality that plague our society. She then shows how through prayer, spiritual warfare, and activism we can halt the destructive advance of the devil's kingdom in the land.

A CKNOWLEDGMENTS

This is one of my favorite parts of writing a book. It may be because it is one of the last things that I do after I have finished the body of the text and am on the homestretch. However, more than that, at this point my heart turns to all of those people who have stood with me during my long, sometimes lonesome journey.
Of course, the very first thank-you goes to the Lord. You are my source and strength. Thank you so much.
I am not one of those writers who just loves to write—although I like it more than I used to. As a result, writing takes a lot of discipline and talking to myself to keep going. It also takes talking to people such as my husband, Mike. He has heard me moan about this book for two years now. I am sure he will be delighted I am finished. Thank you so much, sweetheart!
To my children, who stood in the heat of the battle, yet encouraged me on, thanks from your mom. I love you so much and am proud of you. Also, to my mom, sister and other family members who stood with me—you are the best!
For the staff at Generals of Intercession, especially Polly, who helped me with the manuscript, thank you for enduring the heat with me!
To Beth Ward, thank you for cleaning my house, praying for me and keeping my life in order!
Thank you, Peter and Doris, John and Paula and others, for reading the manuscript.
Next, to the people at Regal for their courage to put this book in print—thank you! I want to express my deepest appreciation to Steven Lawson for the excellent and in-depth job of editing that he did on this book. Thanks, Steve, you made me look good! Also, thank you, Bayard Taylor, for the work you did on the theological review. I am sure you saved me from having some stones thrown my way. God bless you!
Finally, for all my prayer partners who would “rev up those prayers” when I was losing steam. For Mary, Leslyn and Beth, the girlfriends club, for helping with research, cards and chocolate. You have my undying gratitude.
And lastly, as for my part, I think I am going to throw a party! Hallelujah, I am done! Thanks, God!
F OREWORD

My generation grew up with Casper the Friendly the Ghost and Bewitched . I watched both television shows with regularity, finding them cute, comical and entertaining. Today’s millennial kids have Pokemon, Harry Potter and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch . Innocent entertainment? Innocuous fantasy? A harmless way to pass a Saturday morning? Hardly! Wolves still come in sheep’s clothing; Satan still comes as an angel of light.
A few in the Church have awakened to the nefarious nature of the goblins, witches and monsters that parade across our children’s television screens and occupy shelf after shelf in our toy stores. But, sadly, many have not. Casper seems so cuddly, Harry Potter so huggable. What harm can come? Plenty!
As a pastor, I teach my congregation about our enemy who seeks to devour and destroy. Does this mean that a demon resides in every doll and an evil spirit in every television show or movie? No, of course not. But a growing spiritual battle is afoot. The strategic beachhead of the current invasion seems to be entertainment, particularly what amuses our children. Moreover, the demonic infiltration of our culture goes far beyond pocket monsters and teenage spells. We need to be alerted. Inoculated by the gradual, systematic infiltration of these icons of darkness, we have become the proverbial frog in the kettle, who does not know he is being cooked. We are being programmed to accept evil and do not realize it. We must know the schemes of the enemy, so we can counterattack with strategic intercession.
Cindy Jacobs is a faithful member of my church in Colorado Springs and a longtime friend. She is bold, straightforward, balanced and sensitive. When she plays reveille, we need to arise, pay attention and act. I know of no one more qualified to write this book. She is the right person to call us into this spiritual battle against the invasion of the occult in our society.
As cofounder of Generals of Intercession and author of Possessing the Gates of the Enemy and The Voice of God , she has already led tens of thousands of Christians to the frontlines of prayer. She has taught us how to hear the voice of God, how to release prophetic gifts and what it means to war in the heavenlies.
Then, a few years back, Cindy brought to us much-needed insights into the controversial subject of women in ministry in Women of Destiny . Her forthright and biblically based challenge caused many people to shift their paradigms, and the Church was enlightened afresh to God’s plan for women and men.
Now, with this new book, Cindy takes on her toughest assignment yet. She shines a spotlight on what the enemy is up to in the new millennium. Not only does she talk about games, which are entry-level tools, but she exposes an array of demonic plots. Then she digs down to uncover the very principles Satan has used generation after generation to divert people away from God and toward the occult.
Many of us would like to relegate witches to Salem or believe they only live in faraway lands. We would like to ignore what is happening around us. But Cindy will not allow us to do that. She knows the danger of naivete in the Church. She realizes that when we Christians close our eyes, we risk having our congregations as well as our culture invaded by superstition, divination and other occult influences.
A few years ago, Cindy caught wind of the growing popularity of witchcraft, the New Age movement and black magic. Alarmed, she set out to discover just how far these trends stretched. What she discovered will at first shake you to the core. Yes, there could be a witch next door. Absolutely, the children in your neighborhood could be dabbling with curses and talking to spirits. Clearly, the devil has sought to sink his claws into our churches and the very fabric of our society.
However, Cindy Jacobs does not push the panic button. Rather she masterfully walks us through steps to protect ourselves, our families and our communities. She does not stop there. Cindy goes on to show how, with the power of the Holy Spirit, we can actually undermine and turn around what Satan has intended for evil.
If you have ever wondered about Casper, Pokemon or Harry Potter, then you need to read this book. If you want to take part in upending the attack of the enemy, then you should act upon what Cindy Jacobs has researched, revealed and so clearly set before us. This is not simply a research project into the activities of the devil; it is an action plan to counter what has been exposed. With this book, we have the tools to break generational curses, protect our families and uproot the evil that would seek to surround and envelop us. Cindy Jacobs’s message is one of great hope—it is a declaration that we in the Church can embrace. Now let’s allow God to deliver us from evil!

I NTRODUCTION

Writing this book has been the greatest spiritual challenge I have ever dealt with in my life. At times I wanted to give up, wishing someone else would pick up the task. Yet I have finally pressed on to finish the course, because I am convinced that the Body of Christ is, for the large part, uninformed about the occult.
During the time I have been researching and writing this book, there has been what could be called an occult revival. Many people in the Church do not have any idea that this is going on, and I want to let them know.
I have also written this book to make a statement in the heavenlies that we as Christians do not have to be afraid of the works of the devil. The Greater
