Description

Walking and Talking with Jesus! Recently we have been focused by the Lord on how much He wants us to be on the journey with Him. We become Christians so that we can walk and talk with God, yoke ourselves to Christ daily to learn from Him, and keep instep with the Spirit. We pray that as you journey with Jesus as a Watchman on the Wall you will grow closer to Him and that your prayers will be even more refined and personal. The Watchman on the Wall, Volume 3 provides you with 366 days of devotionals in the Word of God with prayers formed from the chapters you study. You will begin your journey with John, pray through the Proverbs, Ester, Ruth, and Song of Solomon, and much more. We pray that you will see Jesus more clearly as you journey with Him in prayer! RON & MARSHA HARVELL were married in 1984. As believers in Jesus Christ as their LORD and Savior, they have been honored to minister for and with Him to local, international, and military faith communities. As missionaries to the U.S. Air Force, they have served around the world. Ron's doctorate is in Transformational Leadership for the Global City, and Marsha is an international trainer for Precept Ministries International. As ministers, parents, and grandparents, they realized the need for believers around the world to be prayer warriors, praying to God with His Word for those they love. In order to help people pray using the Bible, they wrote The Watchman on the Wall: Daily Devotions for Praying God's Word Over Those You Love, Volumes 1, 2 and 3. Ron and Marsha are blessed with seven grandchildren. This also motivates them to pray continually for God to move mightily for their futures. They are also excited about you having the opportunity to pray God's Word over your loved ones, your church, and your country!

W elcome fellow Watchman on the Wall to Volume 3! Through the LORD’s leadership, we are excited to open another arsenal of 366 prayers from the Sword of the Holy Spirit for your use.
And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. With all prayer and petition, pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints . —Ephesians 6:17-18
We have been particularly concerned about the need for shepherding well the LORD’s flock, especially those who are new believers. As you pray for your loved ones, please, include new believers in your prayers as a vital part of “all the saints” (Ephesians 6:18), praying for your church to shepherd new believers to walk with Jesus.
If the LORD permits, there will be a total of four of The Watchman on the Wall devotional books—to cover the entire Bible with a prayer formed from each chapter of the 1,189 chapters of God’s Word. This means that over the course of the four books, there will be times when we write new prayer devotions for books previously covered. For example, Proverbs, Hosea , and several of the New Testament letters, which had devotions in The Watchman on the Wall 1 , are included in this volume, with new devotions and prayers formed from the chapters. God’s Word is rich with innumerable verses to pray; we hope you enjoy mining those books again for treasure verses for your loved ones.
The Watchman on the Wall 3 begins by praying the Gospel of John . The Christmas devotions take you to Bethlehem by way of Ruth , and the year ends reading and praying Ephesians . The months in between are filled with prayers from 31 other books of the Bible—what a great way to grow in your knowledge of God, building your faith in Him! Check out the Scripture Index on page 435 to see the books you will read and pray this year.
Whether you already prayed through The Watchman on the Wall 1 and 2 or are starting with The Watchman on the Wall 3 , here are a few words of encouragement and helpful tips for praying God’s Word as an effective prayer warrior.
Pray the Word of God
The Bible is the greatest prayer book ever written. For 366 days, you will find treasure verses to pray for yourself and others. You will be able to say the Words confidently because they will be the very Words of God, containing His will. By the end of the year, we hope you will be in the holy habit of finding Bible verses to pray, so for the rest of your life, you can constantly pray God’s Words back to Him.
Pray with God
Prayer is a gift and a privilege from the LORD. It is amazing the God of all creation not only gives you permission to talk to Him but desires to converse with you—to be in intimate, nonstop communication with you. Proverbs 3:32 says the LORD is intimate with the upright. Intimate in this verse carries within its meaning the idea of sitting on a couch with a friend, engaging in rich personal conversation. God is drawing you into that kind of relationship with Him.
Pray with Faith
Have faith as you pray that God is greater than any issue of this world, that He cares about you, and He will answer your prayers. Praying is faith. “And without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6). As you pray, seek the LORD. As you go closer to Him, your faith will supernaturally grow as a result.
Pray with Context
For the devotions and prayers to be most fully understood, read the chapter, as suggested, at the beginning of each devotion. If you do so faithfully, you will read nearly 1/3 of the Bible in a year. With a few intentional exceptions, the devotions flow directly through entire books of the Bible.
Pray at a Dedicated Time
If The Watchman on the Wall is your primary devotional for this year, then using it in the morning helps tune you with the LORD before you walk through the rest of the day. Having your “connect with God time” at night is like a violinist tuning their violin after the concert is over. Certainly, anytime with God is good and praying throughout the day is encouraged (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
Pray Alone or With Others
If possible, and fitting for your situation, consider praying with others, perhaps a friend or family member. We heard testimonies of couples married over 50 years who began praying and reading their Bibles together for the first time with The Watchman on the Wall . There are also churches and Bible studies using The Watchman on the Wall together as a group. What a powerful team you will be! The prayers are easily modified to “we” and “us” in place of: “_______ and me.”
Pray with Persistence
God calls you to be a prayer warrior for the sake of others. Isaiah 62:6-7 says God has appointed watchmen who, all day and all night, never keep silent. These watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem constantly remind the LORD to establish Jerusalem. The watchmen refuse to take any rest for themselves, and they give God no rest until He establishes and makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth. Who does God want you to constantly remind Him to establish, making their life a praise to Him?
Pray Standing Firm and Faithful
Just like the watchmen praying for Jerusalem, keep talking to God about the people He wants you to watch over in prayer (Isaiah 62:6-7). Remind God of His promises, His Word, and His Name. Refuse to take a break, continually interceding until God establishes your loved ones, making them a praise in the earth. See from your place on the Wall the glory of the LORD as He answers your prayers and changes the landscape of eternity before your eyes.
To this end also, we pray for you always, that our God will count you worthy of your calling and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power, so that the name of our LORD Jesus will be glorified in you and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the LORD Jesus Christ . —2 Thessalonians 1:11-12

On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen; All day and all night they will never keep silent. You who remind the LORD, take no rest for yourselves; And give Him no rest until He establishes And makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth . I SAIAH 62:6-7, NASB
J ANUARY 1

Please read John 1.
Meditate on verse 1.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God .
“Jesus, who are You?” When Christ lived on earth and in the years following His resurrection and ascension, many asked this question. God had the disciple John write the Gospel of John to answer it. You have the joy of starting this new year reading and praying the book of John. As you do, you will observe Jesus and the signs He performed, “so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name” (John 20:31).
Who is Jesus? John wasted no time in answering the question. Jesus is:
The Word (v. 1)
God (v. 1)
The Beginning (v. 2)
The Creator (v. 3)
Life (v. 4)
The Light (v. 4-5)
The Glory of the Father (v. 14)
The Lamb of God (v. 29)
The Messiah (v. 41)
Commit this year to contemplate and attentively observe Jesus Christ. Pray John 1:14 and 17 over yourself and those for whom you stand guard as a faithful, prayerful watchman (Isaiah 62:6-7).
“Word of God, You became flesh and dwelt among us. Help ___________ and me see Your glory, Your glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. May we know Your grace and truth, which is realized through You, Jesus Christ. In Your name, Jesus~”
