Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. Recently a British report% described a method for calculating the roots of equations of the fifth and sixth degree. One disadvantage of the preposed method is that, at each step, it requires the solution of a quadratic equation. This report presents a simple, general method for finding the complex roots of any polynomial equation. All the operations can be easily performed on a calculating machine.
