Description

After many years and a married and maternal love violently scoffed at, Flore finally finds the strength to answer the attacks of her family-in-law. She gradually frees herself from the upper class background that strangles her, but is facing legal proceedings in which she has to fight in order to stop her total dispossession. Imposture, witchcraft, her enemies will stop at nothing. Most often unbearable, her fate opens sometimes on amazing upturns. Will her craziest ans sweetest dreams come true? The sequel to "The life of a modern martyr" and Flore’s misadventures. After his theatrical adaptation of the myth of Adam and Eve in "Le grand monarque", Franck Della Motte explores once again the condemnation of humanity’s first couple. Some way to break with the alienating and distorted idea that the right-thinking society had of it, denouncing within the same impulse the upper class microcosm. In the end, a beautiful portrait of woman and a real love of writing.

Chapter I The Bagatelle gardens Flore is alone on this 14 August. Chris, her soul-mate, has been in Africa for five months now, and no one knows how long he will stay there. She has not heard a word from him, but does not hold it against him: he did invite her to come along… but she refused. He left just as her play in alexandrine verses was starting to get noticed. In fact, one of the greatest Parisian directors, Marcel Marechal was even considering his own theater on the Champs Elysées to host its performance. How could she have gone away just as her work, the result of years of labor, seemed to be on the verge of success? It had never crossed her mind that the far-reaching ideas she had woven into her play could ever summon such violent reactions. It seemed as if well-aligned, ready-for-battle armies were set on beheading the author. For her opinions shocked and disturbed them. They thought it utterly irreverent that she would dare put forward such innovative ideas. Reluctantly, she had accepted what she took to be her destiny; she had had to choose between her career and her lover she, who had always hated having to choose! Choosing! Hadn’t that forced her to exclude Chris from her life? After all, didn’t she want it all?! There she is, now, in the theater, sitting at a table in the bar. She is waiting for a theater executive. a coffee, she notices an attractive, pleasant-looking man sitting nearby. He notices her too and starts gazing attentively. His white shirt with the top-button undone and his navy-blue jacket compliment his fine complexion. He has the unmistakable look of an artist, albeit a young one-barely thirty. Flore is stunned by his resemblance to Alain Delon, the actor: he has the same regular features, though his face is a bit narrower, or perhaps slightly longer. Truly a good-looking man. She has been waiting for her lunch-date for quite a long while now so, in an effort to try and hide her growing impatience, she looks back at the stranger and points to a few decorative elements that have caught her eye. It is obvious that a lot of work has been put into the place in order to make it more attractive. After a moment of hesitation, he initiates a conversation: — It’s the 15 August weekend and you are alone? — Yes. One would think my children have forgotten I exist! Forgetting is a little like abandoning, wouldn’t you say? These few words surprise the stranger. He remains silent. Through the years, Flore has suffered numerous unpleasant experiences. In a gradually deteriorating family life, she saw three of her four children side with their father against her. Throughout, she has kept hoping that Raoul, her ex-husband, will pay her the sum that set by the tribunals. But she has yet to receive anything. They haven’t been able to come to any kind of agreement. And
