QUEEN IN CANADA
Transcript Presenter:Now she has declared it a home away from home. But the Queen has been greeted by some very British weather on her arrival in Canada. The tour began in Halifax, Nova Scotia from where Paul Harrison reports. Paul Harrison:Home from home… It might have felt that way as the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh braved the heavy rain, and the wind, at the start of what is her majesty’s twentysecond official visit to Canada. In the chill a warm welcome, followed by a state one… While the head of the Commonwealth visited Canada five years ago, it was 1994 when she and her husband last toured Nova Scotia. Back then of course, the Queen Mother was still alive… A timely moment then to reflect on her love of Canada. The Queen:My mother once said that this country felt like a home away from home for the Queen of Canada. Prime Minister, I am delighted to report that it still does and I am delighted to be back amongst you all. Paul Harrison:Particularly back in the Mi’gmaq community. Scheduled early: a visit to a traditional wigwam village. Translated Mi’gmaq means: my people, your people, her people. And her people seemed delighted to see her too, whether sheltering from the elements or squelching through. It was as far back as the sixteenth century that indigenous Nova Scotians first came face to face with Europeans. Coming face to face with Canada’s Queen, a first too for these Mi’gmaq singers. The royal couple have conducted walkabouts in Canada spanning more than five decades, but they are both in their eighties, Prince Philip approaching ninety, and so lengthy longhaul tours like this one are likely to become fewer and farther between. Canadians will be sure to saver every moment. Paul Harrison, Sky News, Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Démarche possible
I. Les élèves connaissent la reine Élisabeth.
2. Faire produire la question “When did the Queen visit a traditional wigwam village?” Donner la date de son voyage au Canada (juin 2010) afin d’obtenir : “she visited one in June 2010, five… six… months ago.” Même démarche pour les autres énoncés: “in the sixteenth century, five centuries ago.” 4. Visionner la fin de la séquence, faire répéter “they are both in their eighties”. Demander de poser les questions afin qu’ils trouvent leurs âges respectifs “When was she born? When was her husband born?”Donner les réponses.
