Main statistical findings Euro areaannual inflation was 0.0 % in April 2015, up from 0.1 % in March. A year earlier the rate was 0.7 %. The flash estimate for April, published on 30 April 2015, was 0.0 %. Looking at the main components of euro area inflation, services (1.0 %, stable compared with March) and food, alcohol & tobacco (1.0 %, compared with 0.6 % in March) had the highest annual rates in April, followed by nonenergy industrial goods (0.1 %, compared with 0.0 % in March) and energy (5.8 %, compared with 6.0 % in March).
Flash estimate and full HICP data The euro area inflation flash estimate is issued at the end of eachreferencemonth or shortly after. When the complete set ofharmonised indices of consumer prices (HICP)isreleasedaround the middle of each month following the reference month, estimated data are replaced by actual data derived from theMember States figures. Main components of inflation Each of the main components contributes in varying degree to the headline inflation in the euro area. In terms of weight, set at 1000 for the allitems HICP, services is the largest component, accounting for around 43.5 % of individual consumption expenditure in the euro area. It is followed by nonenergy industrial goods with around 26.3 %.
Food, alcohol & tobacco and energy account for around 19.7 % and 10.6 %, respectively. comprise less than one third of euro area expenditure, but they can have significant impacts inflation as their levels tend to fluctuate significantly more than the other components.

The breakdown of the HICP into four main components does not follow the standardCOICOPclassifica tion, but groups items from different expenditure classes into four broad product categories. For further details on the composition/subindices, please seeEurostat’s COICOP/HICP classification.
