Today came the news that the Green Deal will go ahead in an attempt to

increase energy efficiency in homes across the UK. The programme is

designed to help homeowners make energy saving home improvements which

will not only keep their homes warm but ensure homes are energy efficient in

order to lower energy bills at a time when gas and electricity prices continue to

rise.

An increased number of homes and families are being hit by the rising costs of

energy prices. Double Glazing Prices has reported that many homes are still

energy efficient and thus, more gas and electricity is being used than is actually

required.

Many homes do not have full double glazing fitted in their home whilst more

than half do not have enough insulation in their wall cavities and lofts. It has

been said that 43% of the UK's total greenhouse gas emissions is due to home's

The Green Deal programme will allow people to pay for some or all of the work

carried out for home improvements with the savings they will make on energy

The subsidy known as ECO will offer those most in need extra help with paying

Energy and Climate Change:

"An increased focus on poorer areas should see an extra 100,000 households in

low income areas benefitting each year, compared to our original proposals,

bringing the total number of low income households and those in low income

areas assisted to around 230,000 a year."

There is currently a framework in place for the Green Deal programme but

further announcements will give clarification on steps to getting the Green Deal

and Eco subsidy. Homeowners and experts in the industry can expect to have

full details by October. It is expected that an average of £1.3 billion will be kept

to ensure support to delivering energy efficiency and heating measures are put

in place across the UK. These in turn will tackle climate change and fuel

poverty.
