DSM and Prysmian Group sign multi-year agreement for DeSolite® Supercoatings
PR Newswire ELGIN, Illinois, July 30, 2012
ELGIN, Illinois,July 30, 2012/PRNewswire/ -- DSM and Prysmian Group today announced the signing of a multi-year agreement for the use of DSM's latest-generation optical fiber coating technology, DeSolite® Supercoatings, in Prysmian Group's line of bend-insensitive optical fiber products. The agreement extends cooperation between the two companies, combining DeSolite® Supercoatings with Prysmian Group's BendBright-XS fiber technology to create high-performance fiber and cable solutions for enhanced deployment and network performance. Prysmian Group's BendBright-XS technology, in its regular 250-micron size as well as its miniaturized 200-micron form, is produced using DeSolite® Supercoatings. Engineered for best-in-class signal attenuation performance via low microbend sensitivity, DeSolite® Supercoatings optimize optical fiber's deployment in today's demanding indoor and outdoor access environments, enabling increased stress tolerance as well as providing the highest levels of processing and field robustness. More than 7 million kilometers of BendBright-XS fiber have been sold since its introduction in 2006, expanding fiber's accessibility in the most demanding indoor and outdoor environments despite various types of network challenges. In 2009, Prysmian Group introduced a new higher-density, high-performance fiber optic cable utilizing 200-micron BendBright-XS optical fibers, made possible using DeSolite® Supercoatings technology. These miniaturized cable designs allow for a 50% increase in fiber count within the same size duct, improving ease of installation, reducing overall maintenance, and allowing broadband service providers to lower capital and operational expenses related to fiber optic deployment. "The advanced DeSolite® Supercoatings that DSM supplies for the production of BendBright-XS bend-insensitive fibers are important components for the performance of these products," said Alain Bertaina, Optical Fiber Product Line Manager, Prysmian Group. "When combined with Prysmian Group's advanced PCVD process technology, DeSolite® Supercoating formulations help secure the enhanced bending attributes of BendBright-XS. We are pleased to extend our strategic supplier relationship with DSM on this key matter." As telecommunications trends identify an ever-increasing demand for higher-bandwidth applications, DSM and Prysmian Group continue to work together to deliver innovative solutions that accelerate optical fiber network deployment by lowering fiber deployment costs and increasing ease of installation. "We have a close, collaborative relationship that centers around a shared vision," said Ad Abel, Sales Director Europe for DSM Functional Materials. "Our passion is providing unique, high-performance solutions for today's telecommunications providers—and, ultimately, giving them confidence that their networks are 'future-proofed.'"
