The award nominees are all researchers who have published for the first time in 2010 or more recently and have an affiliation to an institution in the United Kingdom. Nominations were assessed by a jury consisting of former Fulbright scholars and other discipline-specific experts. Their assessment was based on publication and citation data drawn from Scopus, Elsevier's abstract and citation database.

Elsevier, a world leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, and the US-UK Fulbright Commission today honor six early career researchers in a range of academic disciplines at the 2013 Scopus Young Researcher Award ceremony. The UK Scopus Young Researcher Award is one of the initiatives the US-UK Fulbright Commission and Elsevier have developed together to foster UK research talent. The award nominees are all researchers who have published for the first time in 2010 or more recently and have an affiliation to an institution in the United Kingdom. Nominations were assessed by a jury consisting of former Fulbright scholars and other discipline-specific experts. Their assessment was based on publication and citation data drawn from Scopus, Elsevier's abstract and citation database.
The 2013 UK Scopus Young Researcher Award winners are:

• Medical Science: Corrie Macdonald-Wallis, University of Bristol
• Physical Sciences: Martin Lavery, University of Glasgow
• Social Sciences: Liam Clegg, University of York
• Environmental Sciences: Charles West, University of Plymouth
• Arts & Humanities: Jennifer Watling, University of Exeter
• Biochemistry, Genetics & Molecular Biology: Stephen Montgomery, University College London

The jury also selected the University of Exeter to receive a Scopus Fostering Great Research Institutional Award for its commitment to fostering excellence in young researchers.

The US-UK Fulbright Commission was created by treaty on 22 September 1948. The Fulbright Commission offers grants at postgraduate and postdoctoral level for study in any discipline and at any accredited institution in the US and UK, as well as a number of special exchange programmes for shorter projects or for younger scholars.
