Energy Secretary Warns Families and
Businesses to Expect Rising Electricity Bills

/PRNewswire/ --
Families and businesses will face rising energy bills under new reforms, warns
the government. Ed Davey, the Energy Secretary, has admitted that it is
impossible "to turn back the tide" of rising energy prices and he has alerted UK
households and business owners that they will face higher electricity bills.
The government's energy bill was revealed recently in the Queen's Speech and
it contained the biggest energy reforms in 20 years but the proposals to secure
investment in clean energy generation methods will result in Britons paying
more for their energy.
Under the sweeping changes, there will be a minimum price for carbon dioxide
emissions and low-carbon generators like nuclear companies will receive a
fixed price for their energy. The changes will affect the way the market is
regulated and the way utilities will operate and consequently, proprietors can
expect a nasty rise in their bills to pay for cleaner energy.
Mr Davey, the Energy and Climate Change Secretary, said: "We are extremely
concerned about consumer bills. We can't turn back the tide because global
gas prices are having upward pressures - we can't stop that. What we can do is
try to insulate the UK economy. If we didn't make these changes, bills would be
£200 higher."
