Description

Faber & Silentium Present Sil-K Act, the First Technology Capable of "Actively" Reducing the Noise of Extractor Hoods PR Newswire MILAN and REHOVOT, Israel, August 7, 2012 MILAN and REHOVOT, Israel, August 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Produced in collaboration with Faber & Silentium, a leading Israeli developer of silent technologies, Sil-K ACT reduces noise by 13 decibels Rustling of paper or a hood in action? Faber, which, since its establishment in 1955 in Fabriano (Italy), has grown to become one of the leading manufacturers of kitchen hoods in the world, has recently developed SIL-K ACT, an innovative technology to reduce noise levels by 13 decibels compared to traditional models of the same capacity. Produced in collaboration with Silentium, a leading Israeli developer of silencing technologies, SIL-K ACT is the first device installed in a household appliance to adopt the sophisticated Active Noise Reduction system. The result? The hood makes the sound of rustling paper. In a word: silence. "The collaboration between Faber, a world leader in the production of extractor hoods, and Silentium, the leading innovator of active noise reduction technology has led to SIL-K ACT, a first-of-its-kind device to be installed in a household appliance, ensuring top performance without compromising the hood's extraction efficiency," says Yossi Barath, Chief Executive Officer of Silentium.

Faber & Silentium Present Sil-K Act, the First Technology Capable of "Actively" Reducing the Noise of Extractor Hoods
PR Newswire MILAN and REHOVOT, Israel, August 7, 2012
MILANand REHOVOT,Israel,August 7, 2012/PRNewswire/ --Produced in collaboration with Faber & Silentium, a leading Israeli developer of silent technologies, Sil-K ACT reduces noise by 13 decibels Rustling of paper or a hood in action? "Active noise reduction," says Francesco Faginoli, Functional Design Manager at Faber, "has been the study of R&D for many years now. The purpose is clearly to apply this technology to hoods, thus overcoming the limitations of traditional systems. Within this context, the collaboration with Silentium, a company specialised in this technology, has allowed us to pool the resources of our hood and active noise reduction experts, thus combining the necessary skills to design a device that may be applied to various products platforms, and not on every model, on a one-to-one basis." An adaptation of the noise reduction systems adopted in aeronautics to reduce the level of sound perceived, SIL-K ACT is a unique technology that actively transforms sound. Powered by Silentium S-Cube™, SIL-K ACT registers the noise at source and creates an inverted waveform that cancels the original one, thus nullifying the sound. The system, placed within the body of the hood, comprises a sensor microphone that picks up the sound and measures its frequency and amplitude and a microchip that absorbs the noise input emitted by the noise source and transforms it into output in antiphase, thus cancelling it. This results in a considerable reduction in noise, equal to 13 decibels and in a change to lower-frequency tones, making the sound perceived even less bothersome. Moreover, Sil-K ACT is especially effective in reducing noise in the range of up to 2,000 Hz, reducing noise in the entire audible range of frequencies that are very annoying and harmful to the human ear. Thus, SIL-K ACT "actively" reduces noise pollution, without compromising the
appliance's extraction performance. The Silentium technology also increases the hood's energy efficiency: By removing the typical "passive" sound insulation of traditional systems, which can create a veritable barrier, the performance of the appliance is improved in terms of power and energy savings. The new quality standards introduced by SIL-K ACT put an end to the era of deafening hoods, enabling all those who love to live in every corner of their home to the fullest to take back possession of the kitchen. A drastic reduction in noise pollution promotes well-being in the room where most Italians love to spend their free time in the most diverse ways: watching TV, listening to the radio, reading, studying, or even working, and entertaining loved ones. Easy to apply due to its compact size, this "silence inducing" device has already been installed in some of the most exclusive hoods of the Faber 2012 collection. About Silentium Silentium Ltd. is a leading innovator in spatial Active Noise Control (ANC) technology, developing innovative noise reduction solutions for both mass production and custom requirements.
