Hysteria Movie Creates New Kind of Buzz!
PR Newswire LONDON, September 21, 2012
LONDON,September 21, 2012/PRNewswire/ --The UK release of British comedy film 'Hysteria' is finally here with cinemas showing the film across the UK from Friday21st September 2012. Directed by Tanya Wexler and produced by Tracey Becker, Judy Cairo and Sarah Curtis in 2011 the film depicts the historical moment in which the very first motorised sex toys were accidentally discovered by the use of invented appliances by a Dr. Joseph Mortimer Granville in 1880'sEngland. Although the film bases itself around the character of Dr.Granville, his colleagues, patients and family it also intertwines a love story which allows the film to appeal to a wider audience. The film is sure to create ripples around the country, not least because of the delicate nature of its content! Oscar-nominated, American actress Maggie Gyllenhaal takes the lead role playing Dr. Granville's daughter, the Doctor himself is played by British Actor Hugh Dancy. Other cast members include Rupert Everett, Felicity Jones, Sheridan Smith, Ashley Jensen and Gemma Jones. The New York Post interviewed Brit actor Rupert Everett about the upcoming film and he had his own ideas about who the film would appeal to the most; "Ladies will love it," he said. "Men may not. They might feel uncomfortable because they have difficulty in terms of women's orgasms." Based on the true, historical story surrounding Dr. Granville, the first person to create an electromechanical vibrator, the director of the film, American Tanya Wexler, wanted to work on this script as she 'wanted to laugh'. Her interview with 'Indiewire' website reveals more; "My friend Tracey came to me and said, 'I've got your next movie and it's a romantic comedy about the invention of the vibrator in Victorian England.'I thought that was the funniest thing I've ever heard." These early machines were designed to help doctors who felt unable to complete the 'pelvic massage' task used to treat the symptoms of 'hysteria' in women, manually. His invention was later followed in 1902 with a similar device patented by Hamilton Beach, an American company and portable vibrators were promoted as "delightful companions" in 1922. As we now know living in modern society, sex toys are readily available online and even in High Street stores. The film has already created quite a flutter of interest across the country as our healthy approach to discussing our sex lives, warts and all (no pun intended) has led to a frank honesty when it comes to the UK's curiosity for all things sex related and this includes historical facts about our ancestors. The sex toy industry in the UK has embraced the new release with UK based sex toy suppliers 'Adultoys UK' recreating it's very own 19th Century inspired vibrator using everyday items including; old hoover parts, a metal rod, a cutlery pot, several wires, two rolls of tape, a leather tie, three jumbo paper clips, a computer hard-drive, a petrol can nozzle and pretty obviously a strap on dildo and it can be viewed online at http://www.adultoysuk.co.uk.
