Stay-at-home Dad Scoops the Prize as the UK's Top Money-saver

PR Newswire

Ricky Willis crowned the UK's Smartest Shopper after beating 1000s of rivals

After a gruelling and competitive search, Savoo.co.uk, the money-saving destination site, has found the UK's most knowledgeable and smartest shopper.  Ricky Willis, from Tonbridge Wells - who only nine weeks ago left his job as a print company sales executive to become a stay-at-home dad - beat thousands of rivals to claim the title, a cheque for £10,000 and the opportunity to work with Savoo to create an Award-winning, money-saving blog.

With 10 finalists undergoing interviews from some of the UK's most revered money-savers, to be crowned the UK's smartest shopper is some achievement.  Marc Lockley, the author of 'How to Pay Less For More' and bloggers AThriftyMrs and Miss Thrifty joined last year's inaugural winner - Savvy Annie - on the independent panel. There could be only one winner and Ricky prevailed, due to the judges' amazement at his incredible knowledge of the money-saving industry in such a short period of time.

Ricky's story and situation is one that more and more men find themselves in, in recent times. He said, "It's been an amazing last nine weeks.  It made sense for me to stay at home and look after my kids while my wife went to work. I knew I needed to change the way I spent money and realised I was good at being a savvy shopper so I started my blog skintdad.co.uk. Since then I have had re-tweets from Ricky Gervais and had contact with Martin Lewis. And now I've won Savoo's competition and I hope I can help other families who might be in the same situation that we were in."

Marc Lockley commented, "This year's competition found 10 great finalists, all savvy shoppers in their own right. Experts on a whole host of subjects ranging from fashion to frugal. Ricky is a worthy winner and his Skint Dad BLOG has already attracted some high praise. His story and ideas show that necessary money saving can be fun. 'Fakeaways', debt diaries and being a stay-at-home parent helps people follow his journey and offers inspiration to others to give money-saving a go."

Simon Bird, General Manager of Savoo, followed by saying, "I'm delighted for Ricky and his family and I admire him for teaching himself how to spend less and save more.  All of us at Savoo can't wait to work with him to hopefully create a blog that can be read by others who are in exactly the same situation as he found himself in."

Ricky already has a blog called http://www.skintdad.co.uk, but the team at Savoo is committed to working with him to make his blog the best place to go for families looking to get genuine, everyday money-saving advice that can really make a difference.
