VanQuoteDirect Looks at Potential Factors of
Reducing Top Speeds
PR Newswire
LONDON, June 15, 2012
LONDON

/PRNewswire/ --
VanQuoteDirect has been taking a look at the potential effects a limited top
speed could have for commercial vehicles.
This has come as a result of it having recently been reported that the Freight
Transport Association's Van Excellence Governance Group is to call for vans to
be limited to 70mph by commercial vehicle manufacturers.
VanQuoteDirect's Joe de Vries has been discussing the potential impact this
could have. Mr de Vries explained: "By limiting the top speed to 70mph, this
could reduce the number of incidents on the road as, with the vans
electronically limited to just 70mph, the vans will be a lot safer. This could,
ultimately, lead to lower
van insurance quotes
for a vast number of people."
In addition, Mr de Vries went on to suggest that fuel economy would be
improved when on the motorway as the limited speed will reduce the strain on
the engine and thus lower fuel consumption.
VanQuoteDirect have also stated that with a limited top speed, repair and
maintenance bills are very likely to be reduced as many vans will simply last
longer between needing to have repairs carried out, once again, due to a lack
of strain on the engine and, in fact, the entire van.
It would seem that there are many positives to limiting commercial vehicles to
just 70mph, however with recent speculation and discussions regarding raising
the motorway speed limit to 80mph, would limiting vans to 70mph really be a
wise decision after all?
