14:00 You receive a phone call from a Social Worker in Leeds called Ebony Jones, tel

called John Smith. She doesn’t have very much information, but will bring everything with her
when she arrives. Not sure how long placement will be needed for.

“Leeds Social Services”. Press submit. This creates a record for John.
You decide to give on-line access to
Ebonyso click
on “Administration”, then choose “access rights” and set up ebony’s access,
and then tell
her what it is.

Ebony arrives with John. She tells you his date of birth is 29/3/95. He is on a full care order. He
is white
, however, doesn’t know which country
he was born in. He tells her he is allergic to
peanuts. Social worker apologizes but she must go
call EDS on 0111 111111 in case of
difficulty. She leaves LAC forms. Placement meeting is scheduled for 22/10/2008 at 10:00am (I
know this is a long time off, but just bear with me!).
Updates to FIDO (either when the social worker is present, or after she has gone)
– click on “add contact”
and input Ebony Jones details
, and click on the relationship box and choose “social worker”
Press submit.
Close wind
ow. You will return to “child information”.
Enter date of birth as 29/3/95. Input legal status
details and write
allergic to peanuts
” in “important notes”. Also select “
other
white “ in ethnic origin
drop down box. You might already have EDS contact number, but if not select add contact again and
input this information. At some point when you have a moment select daily log and record the date and
time of the placement meeting
just type
Placement meeting
and change current date to 22/10/2008
and c
hange current time to10:00am. If you click on “future event
s
”, you will see John’s placement
meeting scheduled with any other diary events you may have logged.
3.
You settle John in and give him something to eat. John watches coronation Street and asks if he
can go to bed.
Updates to FIDO
Enter a daily log if you want to. This should be whatever you might normally write in
your diary. E.g. John arrived, was very hungry so fed him Beans on toast (he also says eggs make him
sick!). Went to bed straight after Corrie.
4.
He watches you making your updates on the computer and asks if he can write something
he
cannot think of anything to write so describes what happens on Coronation Street.
Updates to FIDO
John enters a daily log
– “On Carnashun
Street, it was well good
– David shot Befny”.
5.
The other children want to show John his room, so you all take him up to bed after he finishes
on the computer.
6.
At Midnight, the door alarm goes, you run downstairs to find John running out of the house with
the family silver which you forgot to lock away. He is a fast runner
there is no way you can talk
him into staying so you call EDS, who tell you to call the police and you go to bed.
Updates to FIDO
enter a daily log. Click on the activity box and ch
oose “police incident” and write
whatever you can, just as you would in your diary. If your link worker requires you to write an
incident report, this can be done very quickly. Click on Incident/accident and write what you would
normally write. Click on
“submit”, and a copy will be sent automatically to any emails s
et up on
system, and a copy will appear on “Associated documents”.
If you have a format you must use for
your Authority/Agency, let us know so we can add it.
7.
Next day, John is found and alleges that you sexually abused him. An investigation is launched.
8.
Fortunately when Ebony arrives at work next day, she has already logged into FIDO and knows
what to expect. John is found and she speaks to John to ask him what happened. He says he
had
nothing to eat, wasn’t allowed to watch telly and that you took him into his room alone and
stripped him naked at 7:50, he was sure of the time as he saw the time on the clock. Ebony
sympathizes with him, then goes off on a tangent and starts to talk about Coronation Street ,
and complains that she missed the ending
John forgets himself and eagerly tells her what
happened. Social worker begins to doubt his story. As a double check she asks him to spell
Coronation, he eagerly writes Carnashun. There is no way that he could have been stripped
naked in his room at 7:50 as he wrote in FIDO at 8:10
END OF INVESTIGATION!
9.
Incidentally, John’s previous carer , Cathy also used FIDO. Ebony asks Cathy if she could have a
look at her records. Cathy is happy to help and reads that Cathy noted that John had a key to a
lock-up garage which belonged to an old lady called Glynis in Church Lane. Ebony goes round to
have a look and finds your family silver.
10.
Ebony finds another placement for John, but unfortunately this carer is not good at record
keeping. John makes another allegation which cannot be disputed so easily. The carer feels she
is not believed and resigns as it is too stressful. If only she had known about FIDO.
