SYNOPSIS
Running Time 106’
Renowned and notorious photographer, artist, and filmmaker, Larry Clark has written
and directed his new film, Marfa Girl, which takes place in Marfa, Texas (pop. 1,800).
Marfa exists at a particular cultural nexus with a constant clash between the art
community (inspired to come to Marfa by the American sculptor, Donald Judd), the
white community and the Mexican American community. On top of that there’s a
smothering Border Patrol presence despite the fact the Mexican border is 68 miles
away. There is an 11pm curfew for teenagers and they still have corporal punishment
in the schools. They paddle kids in school from kindergarten through high school.
Navigating all of this and more is Adam, a half-white half-Hispanic teenager that’s
just trying to figure shit out. His mother, Mary, loves him but is mostly consumed
with tending to her collection of birds. His neighbour, Donna, a 23 year old mother to
a year old son and girlfriend to a jailed drug dealer, is determined to seduce Adam on
his 16th birthday despite his loving relationship to his age-appropriate girlfriend, Inez.
To further complicate things for Adam, a nameless promiscuous young woman,
sweeps into town as an artist-in-residence at a local art foundation and sets out to
give Adam a full sex education.
Tom, a border patrol agent with a lot of emotional baggage, is fixated on Adam’s
mother and Adam’s girlfriend and Adam too. He longs for the family that he doesn’t
have.
The film, ultimately, is about people’s internal life and why people become who they
become. One character is a New Age spiritual healer. At the end she performs a much
needed spiritual cleansing. The film is very Catholic in that the end is a new
beginning, all sins are washed away and life goes on as each new day brings us a new
start in life.

BIOGRAPHY OF LARRY CLARK

Larry Clark is one of the most important photographers and artists of the last half-
century.
His seminal first book, Tulsa (1971), is still dangerous.
His directorial debut, Kids (1995), established Mr. Clark’s reputation as one of the
most controversial and influential filmmakers of our time.
Other films that followed like Bully (2001) and Ken Park (2002) prompted the MPAA
(Motion Picture Association of America) censorship board to react by advising parents
to “hide your children”.
Larry Clark’s new film, Marfa Girl (2012), written and directed by Mr. Clark, continues
to refine his unique vision and art.
Clark has said:
I don’t try to be controversial, I just try to be honest and tell the truth about
life. Coming from the art world, I never think there are things you can’t do or show. I
think that Hollywood films are really underestimating their audience. I’ve been an
artist for many, many years. I’m not interested in making films to make money. I’m
interested in making work that I’m satisfied with, showing people’s lives that aren’t
shown. If I could see this anywhere else, I wouldn’t have to make these films.

BIOGRAPHY OF ADAM SHERMAN

Adam Sherman's directorial debut at age 24, Dead Doll was a reaction to the fake
aspects of the film industry he encountered upon moving to Hollywood. His
subsequent 2 features Happiness Runs and Crazy Eyes were both autobiographical,
the first about his childhood growing up in a hippie commune and the second about
his life in Los Angeles.
Adam's passion for filmmaking comes from a desire to embrace creativity and express
himself. This has led him to work with his favorite director, Larry Clark, and Produce
his new film, Marfa Girl.
RELEASE

Marfa Girl will be released exclusively on larryclark.com on Tuesday, November 20th,
2012 at 6PM (New York) and Midnight (Rome). It will be available in English with
options for Italian and French subtitles. It won’t be released in theatres or on DVD.

A comment by Larry on this:

I will put the film on my first and only website, larryclark.com, which is the only
place one will ever be able to see the film.... It will stream for $5.99 for access to the
film for 24 hours.... This is the future and the future is now.... Most and very soon
almost all the small theaters that show Indie and Art films will be gone....

Everyday another goes out of business because everything is digital now and it is
quite expensive for the wonderful old smaller theaters to bear the cost of switching to
digital.... Anyway I think I am one of the very first directors to release a new film this
way, on a website who's only purpose is to show his new films.... I have such a large
cult following around the world I think this could be very successful and it also cuts
out the crooked Hollywood distributors.
WIN CRAFT

Win Craft is from North Carolina. He attended Art School. Win Craft is a very talented
Line Producer and Production designer and has the special knack to get people to do
what he wants them to do, like securing official locations that are impossible to get.
People like him and want to do him favors. He is one of a kind. He drinks about a
gallon of coffee a day and I don't thinks he ever sleeps. He is the best.

DAVID NEWBERT - cinematographer

David Newbert is an Cinematographer living in Los Angeles. Born and raised in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, David’s interest in the camera began to flourish as a
teenager while working for his father’s video production company. His love for story
telling and photography then led him to the Film and Media Arts program at Temple
University where his studies focused on photography and cinematography.
Moving to Los Angeles after receiving a BFA in 2004, David scaled up his knowledge
and experience with lighting and camera-technician jobs on over 30 major motion
pictures and television programs. Using these new found skills and abilities David
