This leads to some difficulties with research th due to their lack of permanence and even a written language until 13 century. Most surviving sources are from those that they encountered. Much of the permanent cities they built in the height of their expanse were destroyed by enemies of later years. This, however, gives a strong foundation for a culture suited to surviving any extreme they encountered, even the ‘barbaric’ peoples who live in permanent dwellings and pollute the land they need to survive. One thing you will find is that there is a wealth of sources in Mongol, Chinese, Russian, Arabic, Japanese, and even German but very little translated into English.
