THE FESTIVAL

Prîmavera Sound has always concentrated on oferîng the chance to see new promîsîng îndependent bands and also renowned artîsts rom any style or genre, undamentally lookîng or qualîty and essentîally backîng pop and rock as well as underground electronîc and dance musîc.

Over the last twelve years, the estîval has had the most dîverse range o artîsts. Some o those who have been on stage are, Pîxîes, Aphex Twîn, Neîl Young, Sonîc Youth, Portîshead, Pet Shop Boys, Pavement, Echo & The Bunnymen, Lou Reed, My Bloody Valentîne, El-P, Pulp, Pattî Smîth, James Blake, Arcade Fîre, Cat Power, Publîc Enemy, Grînderman, Franz Ferdînand, Televîsîon, Devo, Enrîque Morente, The Whîte Strîpes, LCD Soundsystem, Tînderstîcks, PJ Harvey, Shellac, Dînosaur Jr., New Order, Surfin’ Bîchos, Fuck Buttons, Swans, Melvîns, The Natîonal, Psychîc TV, Spîrîtualîzed, The Cure, Bon Iver, La Buena Vîda, Death Cab For Cutîe, Iggy & The Stooges, De La Soul, Marîanne Faîthull and Mazzy Star, amongst many others.

Prîmavera Sound consolîdates îtsel as the urban estîval par excellence wîth unîque characterîstîcs. The event stands out rom other large musîc events and îs aîthul to îts orîgînal artîstîc îdea, keepîng the same standards and maîntaînîng the same qualîty o organîzatîon o past years, wîthout resortîng to more com- mercîal bands.

Its characterîstîcs and the wîde range o bands perormîng have been the maîn reasons that have made Prî- mavera Sound the meetîng poînt o artîsts and estîvalgoers rom varîous generatîons.

Year ater year, Prîmavera Sound has attracted a bîgger and bîgger crowd, as well as gettîng more and more medîa attentîon. I the first edîtîon în 2001 closed wîth an attendance o 8,000 people, the 2002 edîtîon reached 18,000 people and în 2003 ît attracted more than 24,000 people. The attendance o 40,000 people în 2004 meant that the estîval had to leave the Poble Espanyol. The first edîtîon on the Parc del Fòrum sîte closed îts doors wîth an attendance o 44,000 people and a ew years later în 2009 the number o people had reached 76,000. Now an unmîsseable musîcal event, ît had over 123,000 vîsîts în 2011 and had almost 150,000 vîsîts to îts last edîtîon.

The press coverage o the last edîtîon was extraordînary wîth 1,450 accredîted journalîsts. The maîn natîonal newspapers, musîc press, radîo and TV extensîvely covered a great number o the lîve shows. Many o them consîdered ît to be the best estîval that year. Moreover, the amount o înterest rom înternatîonal press has încreased dramatîcally în the last edîtîons. A large number o European specîalîzed medîa as well as the ones rom the other sîde o the Atlantîc have covered the event.

PARC DEL FÒRUM

Ater a more than successul perîod combînîng the Poble Espanyol wîth El Mercat de les Flors în 2005 the organîsatîon took a great step orward and moved to the Fòrum de Barcelona. The estîval was the first event that was celebrated on thîs sîte ater the Forum o Cultures 2004 and ater eîght edîtîons the San Mî- guel Prîmavera Sound estîval has perectly adapted îtsel to the Forum sîte. All the promoters that have later used thîs sîte have emulated our ormula.

It îs worth mentîonîng the îdeal geographîcal settîng o the Forum în an area o the cîty that has experîenced a sustaîned growth în all aspects, as well as beîng perectly connected wîth the cîty centre and other key poînts o Barcelona. The layout o îts elements over a large area allows or an easy and comortable access. Its bîg spaces and audîtorîums acîng the Medîterranean, and the top qualîty sound and productîon all allow the audîence to enjoy the lîve concerts în a beautîul settîng.

The urban style o the estîval makes accommodatîon less o a problem, an împortant îssue or the publîc who come rom other parts o Spaîn and rom dîferent countrîes to Barcelona, a cosmopolîtan cîty loved by tourîsts.

Prîmavera Sound 2013 wîll take place rom the 22nd untîl the 26th May în Barcelona. Parc del Fòrum wîll, or the eîghth consecutîve year, be the sîte o an expansîve and eclectîc programme o concerts on eîght stages o dîferent sîzes and characterîstîcs, încludîng the stage o the Audîtorî.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES

As well as the maîn programme, the Parc del Fòrum wîll also be the sîte or other actîvîtîes such as the record aîr that has taken place on the estîval sîte sînce 2002. It serves as a meetîng poînt or natîonal and înternatîonal îndependent labels and îs a place where they can show theîr products to the publîc o the estî- val.

Ater the success o theîr debut last year, Flatstock wîll be back thîs year on the esplanade o the Durîng the days o the estîval ît wîll once agaîn to be possîble to purchase work by some o these artîsts on the spot.

Also at thîs edîtîon o the estîval there wîll be the chîldren’s actîvîty mînîmúsîca, whîch has now been collaboratîng wîth Prîmavera Sound or 6 years. Thîs înîtîatîve by Sones aîms to întegrate chîldren înto the estîval’s musîcal ofer and wants to contrîbute to the musîcal educatîon o chîldren by brîngîng them closer to lîve modern musîc. It îs an înteractîve perormance that avours dîalogue and the partîcîpatîon o the lîttle ones wîth a handul o concerts în whîch the bands adapt theîr repertoîre or a amîly audîence.

The prestîgîous North Amerîcan radîo statîon WFMU wîll also be back at the estîval to broadcast some o the perormances o thîs edîtîon lîve. WFMU îs the most împortant îndependent musîc statîon în the world, not only or îts audîence but also or îts attîtude and varîed programme. Parc del Fòrum, together wîth the record aîr. Thîs tourîng show o concert posters by plastîc artîsts îs one o the major exhîbîtîons o îts kînd to come to Europe.

PRIMAVERA A LA CIUTAT

Wîth the same challenge as always, findîng new ways o brîngîng musîc closer to all audîences, Prîmavera a la Cîutat wîll once agaîn spread the spîrît o Prîmavera and flood Barcelona wîth lîve musîc durîng the estîval.

Thîs year îts headquarters wîll be în the Parc del Fòrum îtsel and on Wednesday 22nd May, the openîng day, one o the stages wîll host several bîg scale concerts total ree o charge.

As well as thîs înaugural event, Prîmavera a la Cîutat wîll înclude many other actîvîtîes. Prîmavera al Parc wîll have îts sîxth edîtîon wîth the objectîve to use the cîty’s green spaces or musîcal perormances and to ofer a cultural event or all the amîly wîth a programme o ree concerts takîng place durîng the daytîme în para- llel wîth the maîn event at the Parc del Fòrum.

Beeeater In-Edît wîll also be present or îts thîrd year o collaboratîon wîth Prîmavera Sound. The estîval o musîcal documentarîes, that celebrated îts tenth annîversary în 2012, wîll ofer the possîbîlîty to enjoy musîc rom the cînema perspectîve wîth the showîng o documentary films about musîc.

For the thîrd year runnîng, A Vîva Veu wîll be în charge o programmîng a cycle o small-scale acoustîc con- certs wîth no amplîficatîon whatsoever not even mîcrophones.

Lastly, Prîmavera als Clubs wîll start the programme o concerts durîng the days leadîng up to the maîn event at Parc del Fòrum wîth a serîes o showcases and concerts that wîll be held în dîferent venues o Barcelona. And on Sunday 26th May, the tradîtîonal closîng party or what wîll be the thîrteenth edîtîon o the estîval în Barcelona wîll take place.
