Q&A - Web 2.0 & Email 3.0The following queries and questions were raised by our Partners and Customers when we recently held webinars about the new features in the Clearswift Web 2.0 and Email 3.0 Appliances.We are now publishing them so everyone benefits from them. Clearswift™ Email Appliance & Edge Server 3.0 Who provides your reputation service?The reputation service is not licensed from anyone; it is a Clearswift developed component and uses a number of data feeds to augment the call home data from the Appliances that are deployed in the field.By using this system we can identify bad senders within a few milliseconds and reject the connections of between 80-90% of the average customer’s traffic. A by-product of this is that bandwidth is recovered by early rejection. Can you prevent end users from whitelisting a whole domain such as *@hotmail.com?We cannot prevent a user adding that entry to their whitelist, but the administrator can check individuals’ whitelists and edit them accordingly. The administrator can also report on all trusted senders from all users. Is the Personalised Message Manager (PMM) interface localised? Yes the PMM user interface is localised into 7 other languages:French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish and Traditional Chinese. Will the Edge Server be upgraded as well?Yes the Edge Server will receive all the changes to Anti-spoofing, Data Type handling and the PMM enhancements. How can you add Anti-virus on the Edge server?The customer should contact Clearswift or one of its partners to obtain a license for this component. Do customers have to enter a new license when upgrading?Providing a customer has a valid support and maintenance agreement then they may upgrade using their existing license key. Can I create one policy for a customer and apply it to both instances?Yes – By conjoining the Web and Email Appliances together they can share policy rules between protocols. Obviously these common rules need to be protocol agnostic, for example “detect virus” or “block mpeg files”, and not “detect spam” which is purely an email only policy rule. How are files detected by the MIMEsweeper engine?Files are detected by looking at the byte sequences within the file, to provide precise file identification. Some files are identified by the bytes at the start of the file; other files are more complex and have bytes in specific parts of the file. The product can also detect by filename or extension if required. Is it possible to change PMM access from http to https?No the PMM end user interface is currently HTTP only.
