Boogie Nights Oscar Verdict
Why do so few African Americans have Oscar Awards?
Leonardo DiCaprio considers turning down the role of Dirk Diggler (played by Representation Wahlberg) as his prevalent job regret. The actor contemplated doing the motion picture for a long time, then again signed on to star in the Titanic once Kate Winslet decided to join the cast.
Although he received an Academy Award nomination for Ultimate Supporting Actor (as Jack Horner), and won a Golden Globe, Burt Reynolds hated Boogie Nights. The actor felt he had betrayed his fans who expected him to make films along the lines of Smokey and the Bandit and Cannonball Run. Reviews at the time said Reynolds fired his agent after viewing a rough cut of Boogie Nights.
Electric Light Orchestra leader Jeff Lynne was initially hesitant to allow the song “Livin’ Thing” to be used in Boogie Nights, in deference to his two young daughters, and an aversion to sex and violence in movies. Yet after the director and writer Paul Thomas Anderson gave the musician a private screening of the show, Lynne happily granted the filmmaker the rights to operate the song.
