Susanne BERTHIER-FOGLAR

holds a Ph.D. in American Studies and is teaching at the

Université Stendhal, Grenoble 3, UFR de Langues. Her publications are about Native

American history and ethnic identities in the Southwest from the first contact with Europeans

to contemporary indigenous activism.

Susanne Berthier-Foglar, titulaire d’un doctorat d’Etudes américaines est maître de

conférences à l’Université Stendhal, Grenoble 3, UFR de Langues. Ses publications portent

sur l’histoire des amérindiens et les identités ethniques dans le Sud-Ouest des Etats-Unis

depuis le premier contact avec les Européens jusqu’aux militantisme autochtone

Catherine DELMAS

is a full professor of English literature at the University of Grenoble. Her

doctoral dissertation and her research focus on modes of representation of the Orient seen

through Western eyes, in 19

th

and 20

th

century British novels and travel literature, as well as

on Orientalist and (anti-)colonial discourse during the colonial and post-colonial periods. She

has recently published a work entitled

Ecritures du désert : voyageurs et romanciers

anglophones XIXè XXè siècles.

Catherine Delmas est professeur de littérature anglaise à l’Université Stendhal - Grenoble 3.

Sa thèse et ses travaux de recherche portent sur les modes de représentation de l’Orient par

l’Occident, dans le roman et les récits de voyage britanniques des XIXème et XXème

siècles, ainsi que sur le discours orientaliste et (anti)impérialiste aux époques coloniale et

postcoloniale. Elle vient de publier un ouvrage sur

Ecritures du désert : voyageurs et

romanciers anglophones XIXè XXè siècles

qui paraîtra prochainement aux Presses

universitaires de Provence.

Cécile FOUACHE

is an associate professor in the English Department of the University of

Rouen where she teaches post-colonial studies and Canadian studies. She is also co-

director of the Multidisciplinary Institute of Canadian Studies (IPEC) of the University of

Rouen for which she has organised the FACS annual conference in 2003 on "Canada's

Peoples". She has published several articles on David Malouf, Michael Ondaatje and Carol

Shields and is interested in the issue of native identity (Grey Owl and Mudrooroo) as well as

the issue of reconciliation in the multicultural societies of the Commonwealth. She is in the

process of completing a doctoral dissertation on Carol Shields's novels under the supervision

of Professor Jacques Leclaire.

Cécile Fouache est maître de conférences au département d’anglais de l’université de

Rouen où elle enseigne notamment en études canadiennes et en cultures post-coloniales.

Elle est co-responsable de l’Institut Pluridisciplinaire d’Etudes Canadiennes, dans le cadre

duquel elle a organisé le congrès annuel de l’AFEC 2003 sur le thème " Peuples du Canada

". Elle a publié plusieurs articles, notamment sur David Malouf, Michael Ondaatje, Carol
