Athènes 2004 – Athlétisme hommes 50 km marche Finale NIZHEGORODOV Denis e(RUS) 2 .  IOC Library-2006 Consistent with its goal of protecting the health of athletes, since 1988 the IOC Medical Commission has published numerous volumes of The Encyclopedia of Sports Medicine, produced Handbooks of Sports Medicine and Science for particular Olympic Sports, and collaborated with the IOC Library to maintain the world’s most complete collection of publications dealing with the various areas of sports medicine and sports sciences. This collection is a magnificent resource for medical doctors, health personnel, and other individuals who provide care for athletes of all ages and abilities around the world. We are now able to produce this most important bibliography of the holdings of the IOC Medical Commission Collection of Sports Medicine and Sports Science at the IOC Library for reference texts and scientific journals published until 2006. The availability of these publications, and the materials contained therein, constitutes a valuable contribution by the Medical Commission and the IOC Library to the dissemination of information of critical importance, both to the care of athletes and to the health of the general public. Elle a également collaboré avec la Bibliothèque du CIO à la création et à la mise à jour de la collection la plus complète qui soit d’ouvrages traitant de médecine et de sciences du sport. Cette collection est une riche source d’informations pour les médecins, le personnel de santé et tous ceux qui, partout dans le monde, s’occupent d’athlètes de tous âges et de toutes capacités. Nous sommes en mesure aujourd’hui d’établir la plus importante bibliographie répertoriant les ouvrages de référence et les revues scientifiques parus jusqu’en 2006 et appartenant au fonds médical de la Bibliothèque du CIO. Ces publications et leur contenu sont un moyen particulièrement efficace pour la Commission médicale et la Bibliothèque du CIO de contribuer à la diffusion d’informations primordiales pour la santé non seulement des athlètes mais aussi du grand public. [phone] / Fax [phone] / www.olympic.org  The virtual explosion of interest and activity in sports medicine and the sports sciences that began in the middle of the Twentieth Century has continued to grow throughout the intervening years. Sophisticated scientific methodology and new clinical and laboratory techniques have permitted rapid advancement in such areas as sports injury prevention, injury treatment and rehabilitation, the physiology of conditioning and competition, sports biomechanics, and sports nutrition. Such advancement is based upon controlled investigations and the sharing of the resultant information by means of scientific journals and authoritative reference volumes. The objective of the establishment in 1990 by the IOC Medical Commission of a Special Collection of Sports Medicine and Sports Science at the IOC Library was to enhance the availability of this important information to professional persons who work with individual athletes and with sport teams. The collection presently constitutes the most complete and up-to-date compilation of such scientific information in the world. This booklet contains a complete bibliographical listing of The Olympic Library’s holdings in sports medicine and the sports sciences. May the collection serve as an invaluable resource for medical doctors, exercise scientists, allied health professionals, and students studying the medicine and science of sport and exercise. Les méthodes scientifiques modernes, les nouvelles techniques cliniques et de laboratoire ont permis de rapides progrès dans des domaines tels que la prévention et le traitement des blessures, la rééducation, la physiologie de la préparation et de la compétition, la biomécanique et la nutrition. Ces progrès s’appuient sur des recherches scientifiques et sur le partage des informations qui en résulte grâce à leur publication dans des journaux scientifiques et des ouvrages de référence faisant autorité. En 1990, la Commission médicale du CIO lance la création d’une collection spéciale réservée à la médecine du sport et aux sciences du sport à la Bibliothèque du CIO. L’objectif était de mettre cette abondante information à disposition des professionnels qui travaillent avec les athlètes individuels et les équipes sportives. A ce jour, cette collection est la plus complète et la plus actualisée au monde. The Sports Medicine / Sports Science collection has been established by the IOC Medical Commission in collaboration with the IOC Library staff and constitutes the world’s most complete collection of reference materials on all aspects of sports medicine, physiology, biomechanics, nutrition and psychology.
