The theory of the water governance school as represented by Karl Mark, Karl Wittfogel and Ray Huang is perhaps the most useful explanation of why China embarked on unitarianism more than 2000 years ago.

** Dear Parents: The format of the AP French Exam will change significantly
for the 2011-2012 school year. Below is the current course syllabus. The
rigor of the class will remain the same, but some of our activities and
readings will change in alignment with the new exam format.

Course Objectives:
This program is a highly rigorous course for dedicated students intent on
refining their skills in reading, writing, speaking and understanding spoken
French language. This program will be conducted entirely in French; the use of
English will not be permitted. Students will expand their vocabulary and
perfect their grammar by writing essays, participating orally in class discussions,
debates, and skits, listening to samples by native speakers (authentic news broadcasts,
songs, movies, etc.) and reading college-level novels and texts. Students will prepare
for the French Language Advanced Placement exam by taking Released AP exams
throughout the school year.

Classroom rules/expectations
Students will speak in French at all times. Please respect yourself, your
instructor, and your classmates. Come on time for class, and focus on the day’s
activities. Only you can prepare yourself for the AP exam. Try your best at all
times, and never be afraid to ask for help!

Grade Determinations:
60% Formal Assessment (exams, quizzes, projects)
20% Oral Proficiency (daily speaking assessments, dialogs, etc.)
20% Written Proficiency (essays, short projects, teacher-created activities, etc..)

Tardy and Absence Policy:
For any excused absence you will have the number of days absent to make up
any missed work. You will have two weeks to make up any missed tests or quizzes on
Tuesdays (during a study hall or lunch) or Thursdays (during a study hall, lunch,
before school from 7-7:30 in room 310 and after school from 2:40-3:30 in room 310).
Any tests or quizzes not made up will receive a zero. If you have an unexcused
absence, you will receive a zero for that day, including all tests, quizzes and
projects due on that day.





Homework Policy: Homework is an important component of the learning process and we use it as
practice, not assessment. Our expectation is that our students will complete all
homework assignments carefully and thoroughly and come to class prepared to
actively participate in the daily activities that incorporate these concepts. “Drill
and Practice” or “D&P” assignments will be recorded in PowerSchool so that
parents/guardians may monitor their child’s completion effort as well as keep
track of their child’s involvement in their own learning. Please note that the point
value of “D&P” assignments will not be calculated into the grade. We will list these
types of assignments as “D&P” along with the following effort scale:
• 2-completed
• 1-attempted but not completed
• 0-incomplete
