1. ARIS for SAP
ARIS Enterprise Services Repository Integration is now available to customers with a valid ESR version 7.11 license. The following
functions are available upon request:
*Browse ESR from ARIS front-end
*Merge ESR objects into ARIS database
*Search for enterprise services in the SAP service viewer
*Query additional information from the SAP Developer Network (SDN) and WSDL files
*Comment enterprise services into business processes
*Run GAP analyses and additional reporting, e.g. ESR business blueprint
2. Model shortcuts are now visible in the Business Publisher navigation tree.
3. ARIS BI Modeler provides the following scope of functions:
- RFC interface with direct access from ARIS to SAP BW 7.0
- User-friendly guidance for extracting metadata
- Automatic layout builder for ARIS BI Modeler models
- Modeling conventions based on SAP BW 7.0
- Model for modeling NON-SAP Datawarehouse applications and integration into SAP BW models
- Representation of active, supplied, and changed data structures in ARIS
- Extraction of inactive business content
- Export of structures in customized namespace
- Symbols are adapted to SAP BW 7.0 angepasst, e.g. data transfer process
- Additional objects for modeling Enterprise Datawarehouse approaches (layer objects)

4. The Solution Manager synchronization now writes entries into the change history of SAP Solution Manager.
5. With Solution Manager 7.0 EHP1, you can lock structural elements in the SAP Solution Manager blueprint tree. The ARIS for SAP
Solution Manager synchronization now takes the SAP Solution Manager blueprint tree locks into account.
6. The ARIS Designer modeling area has been enlarged by 50% to enable modeling of very large models.
7. Java 6 Update 10 and Java Client Performance
============================================
Sun released Java 6 Update 10, which contains many performance improvements. However, depending on the graphics hardware
and driver configuration used, you may experience
poor performance in Designer and Matrix Editor modules.
In this case, use the following command line option when starting the ARIS client:
-Dsun.java2d.d3d=false
Using this parameter, drawing speed is back to normal as if you were using a previous version of the JRE. Of course, the other

8. The report component of ARIS 7.1 is basically compatible with Microsoft Office 2007. However, documents saved in Microsoft
Office 2007 format are not accessible for ARIS 7.1 reports. Therefore, you need to save files in in "Excel-97-2003-Worksheet (*.xls)"
format when importing data from Microsoft Excel files via a report to ARIS.
9. If you launched ARIS Business Architect/Designer in applet mode (browser-internal), you need to use the menu item "File/Close"
to exit the applications before closing the browser. This avoids losing your user settings.
10. Synchronization now supports the following transaction types:
- BSP Application
- Web Dynpro Application
- Java Web Dynpro Application
- Long URL
Since transactions of this type have not yet been transferred to ARIS you need to first synchronize your projects toward ARIS with
the option "Transfer new Transactions" enabled.
11. ARIS Business Publisher now features a flash carousel, thus enabling an aspect-oriented approach to ARIS Business Publisher
Repository. The settings for appearance and navigation are specified in a separate configuration file. Consequently, there is no need
to change the ARIS Business Publisher Server configuration file when configuring the flash carousel.
12. Model properties: The http link to the model (direct link) is now available in the download client in all start modes.
a) index_app.html (application mode)
b) index_lan.html (applet mode)
c) index_ssl.html (applet mode with SSL)

13. ARIS Business Publisher: The TomCat 6 x64-bit incl. 64-bit Java environment has been approved for ARIS Business Publisher.
14. Instructions how to update the ARIS database systems (ORACLE):
Important: Do not execute install.bat because this would uninstall your installation first, i.e. you will lose in particular all your ARIS
databases, and this will turn out to be fatal if you forgot to perform step I).
Here the steps in detail:
I) Make adb backups of all your ARIS databases.
II) Replace the stored procedure ARIS71ADM.schema_aris in your Oracle database. This can be accomplished this way:
The definition of the procedure schema_aris is located in the SQL*PLUS script schema_aris.sql that is located on the installation
DVD (of the Service Release). There you find all scripts that are needed to perform an initial installation.
- You edit the envset.bat just the same way you did it for the initial installation.
- Execute the update.bat (respectively the update.sh in case of Unix)
Remark: The schema name ARIS71ADM might differ, if you changed it in your initial installation.
III) Restore all of your adb files.
15. Instructions how to update ARIS database systems (MS SQL Server):
Warning: Do NOT run the "inst.bat" script because this will uninstall your installation, i.e. you will lose your ARIS databases. This
would be catastrophic if you forgot to perform step I of the following procedure. Therefore, please proceed exactly as follows:
© IDS Scheer AG Page 3/55 ARIS Service Release Newsletter - June 2009I) Save all your ARIS databases in "adb" files (right-click on the database name, click on the "Save" menu item, etc.).
II) Replace the saved procedure "ARIS71ADM.new_schema_aris" in your database. The definition of the saved procedure
"new_schema_aris" is located in the SQL script "schema_aris.sql" on the installation CD (of the Service Release). All scripts
required for an initial installation are saved there.
a) Edit the file "update.bat" exactly like you edited the file "inst.bat" during the initial installation.
b) Run the script "update.bat".
Note: The schema name "ARIS71ADM" can be different if you selected a different schema name during the initial installation.
III) Restore all of your adb files.
16. ARIS Download Client: Java versions 1.6 Update 3 and older are supported now. To use them you must perform a manual
adjustment which is described in the "readme.txt" file. It is located on the product DVD.
17. The ARIS product family 7.1 (except for ARIS Process Performance Manager and ARIS Risk and Compliance Manager) is
released for the following languages from Service Release 2009_01:

Business Architect / Designer
1. The automatic layout now works properly for models of the "Business control diagram" type so that symbols no longer overlap.
2. You can now expand and view the help for the "Overwrite existing attributes" check box on the Attribute Wizard page "Select
attributes".
3. When moving objects within the matrix, the visible area is now automatically moved, too (scrolled).
4. ARIS Business Server: You can now open newly created databases if the default alternative language "English" was removed
from the server. (See also "Help/Help topicss", under "Manage/Manage databases/Valuable information", page "What is the
alternative language?")
5. ARIS object references within a macro no longer become invalid.
6. Versioning: Versioning now works properly for all ARIS connections even if you selected the entry "Within the selection" for the
option "Connection handling". (See also: "Help/Help topics", under "Versioning/Valuable information", page "What effect do the
"Within the selection/Include border items options have?")
7. The model template no longer changes if individual objects of the model are assigned another template (see also "Help/Help
topics", under "Work with objects and models/Create models/Procedure/Model", page "Assign individual model items a template").
8. If you do not specify a file extension in the "Select export file" dialog box for the XML export, the file extension selected in the
XML Export Wizard is automatically attached when closing the dialog box. (See also "Help/Help topics", under "Using
interfaces"/"XML export/import"/"Procedure", page "Exporting database content in XML format")
9. When generating models of the EPC type from EPCs in column and/or row display and in tables, objects are no longer placed on
top of each other.
