OTHER EXPERIENCE
Led two discussion groups that included 25 students in each class. Graded problem sets, assisted students with their homework during discussion.Holding office hours to additionally help students who are experiencing problems with their lab work or to answer questions about class material.
NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MDSummer Institute on Atmospheric, Hydrospheric, and Terrestrial Sciences for 2003 June 2003–August 2003 Assisted scientists in the Cold Land Processes Experiment. Programmed in GrADS to characterize and analyze temporal and spatial variability of the field data.
Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI), Greenbelt MD Field Technician July 2003-August 2003 Participated in NASAs cold land processes field experiment. Maintained instruments which took ground based measurements of snow depths and other meteorological variables in Fraser, CO. Assembled and disbanded towers, recorded measurements, and corrected malfunctions. The Climate Office - The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA Work Study Position August 2003-May 2004
Assisted with data entry of the state's climatological network, compiled data sets, performed elementary research on web, and developed graphical presentations of the data. Long term project was to assist in hindcasting project to test skill of long term predictions based on past surface anomalies.Implemented and verified monthly experimental forecasts.
Summer Colloquia 2006 – The Art of Climate Modeling National Center for Atmospheric and Oceanic Science, Boulder, CO Selected applicant June 2006
Engaged in lectures, modeling laboratory classes and project work involving coupled climate models. Advanced training in how to run a full GCM model, and understanding their theoretical and practical underpinnings to be able to improve them for emerging scientific tasks.Used NCARs coupled model to study the sensitivity of the Indian Monsoon to variations in convection. Alteredthe convection scheme in the model to attempt to better model results. Comparison of model output to observational and assimilated data in the monsoon region.  StrategicEnergy Summer Intern  May2004–August 2004 Worked in their operations department solving metering issues for the state of Michigan.Issued work orders, discussed problems with account managers, issued checks, updated and maintained the database, attended weekly meetings, created regional operations manuals consisting of metering requirements and regulations in each deregulated state. The National Weather Service, State College, PA Volunteer  August2003-May 2004 Assisted operational meteorologists in developing forecasts, prepared aviation forecasts, and worked hydrometeorology technician shifts. Campus Weather Service - The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA Volunteer August 2000-December 2001 Volunteered for a weekly shift to discuss weather charts, forecast for zones in Pennsylvania on the internet, and call local radio stations.
