7 Ways to Get 7 New Personal Training Clients in the Next 7 Days - Fitness MarketingFirst of all, you must change. Now, people are sometimes reluctant to change and that’s understandable. However, in this case I just want you to understand what I mean by this. What I mean is that if everything you were doing is right, then you would have customers, clients, and members coming out your ears. You would have so much business, you would have no idea how to handle it.So you must realize that you are doing something wrong. Youare missing something. There is a missing piece to the puzzle somewhere, somehow, so you have to acknowledge that first. As soon as you acknowledge that, then you can implement these seven strategies. All right, so if you have acknowledged that that you have to change at least something or at least be willing to learn about how you can change, then you can proceed. Are we in?All right, let’s go.1. Youhave to ask for the business. This may seem ridiculously obvious; however, you have to be honest with yourself right now.Are you asking for the business? Are you asking for referrals? Are you going to the right persons to meet people to get the business? Are you making yourself available not just available to like you can go shake a hand, but are you emotionally available? That sounds like a relationship thing, right? Well,it is kind of a relationship without all of the awkward dating part. But this is a relationship between you and your client and you and your customer and you have to be able to ask for business. Now, there’s obviously a lot of different processes to asking for the business and that’s not exactly what this lesson is about, but I just want you to be receptive to the idea and the concept of being able to ask for business.Today have you asked anyone for their business? Haveyou asked anyone for a referral?Have you gone online and asked for business?Have you gone out and met anyone and asked for business?Have you posted anything requesting the opportunity to help somebody?Have you done that? Haveyou done it today?Did you do it yesterday?Did you do it last week? Are you constantly thinking of new ways to ask
7 Ways to Get 7 New Personal Training Clients in the Next 7 Days - Fitness Marketingfor business? If the answer is no, then the result needs to be “I will doit and I will do it now and I will do it every day.”You have to ask for the business.I know it sounds simple.I know it may sound repetitive, but in fact what I’ve learned over time is that most people don’t ask for the business and then they wonderat the end of the day why they don’t have any business.2. Getlisted online everywhere for free. Now, obviously there’s a bunch of paid stuff you can do and you can do that if you want to, but heck, I’m always up for a freebie whenever I can get it so I think you should do the same.At least consider it.So here are some cool resources for you: (1)www.FitnessProDirectory.com- Yes,I am totally biased towards this became I created it.That’s why it’sfirst is because there is absolutely unabated bias. However, www.FitnessProDirectory.comYou can put up youris crazy cool. profile; you can put your bio there. You can put up photos. It has social buttons.People can like it.They can tweet about it.You can put up maps using Google Maps. You can imbed YouTube videos. Youcan make separate classified ads.You can make as many classified ads as you want.Do not spam.Do not do a bunch of junk or it will be eliminated and your account will be canceled, I promise you. However, if you do all of the cool, neat stuff to help people and build your business the ethical, moral, and correct way, Fitness Pro Directory will rock your world and get you a ton of new clients and customers. And you can also put in as many articles as you want.Make sure there are all relevant.Make sure that you describe them well and you added your geographic location so peopleif you have a geographically sensitive business, they will find you appropriately. You can also do events. Maybe you have a new boot camp or a cross fit or maybe you do a martial arts program or Yoga or Pilates or maybe you’re doing a special event.Maybe you’re doing some cause marketing. That’s where you partner with the Make a Wish Foundation or the Susan Cohan Foundation or whatever it is.Whatever listing you want to do or an eventmaybe you’re getting a bunch of people for your boot camp together to do a 5K event for charity or maybe you’re going to do mud burn or something like thatsome crazy thing.
7 Ways to Get 7 New Personal Training Clients in the Next 7 Days - Fitness MarketingGet everyone together to do it.It’s a great way to build your community; but you can do this immediately. The cool thing about Fitness Pro Directory is that now, because we have so many people getting involved with this, it’s really getting indexed well on Google. So people don’t have to actually go to www.FitnessProDirectory.comto find you, it’s getting indexed on the first page of GooglIt’s free; it will always be free.do that.e. So Dig in and enjoy.
(2) Anothergood one iswww.ThumbTack.com. I’mnot saying just do one of these things; I’m saying do it all. Get out there and proliferate. It’sIt’s very cool andsuperfast; it’s easy; it’s free. they also get indexed very well on Google.
(3)www.Yelp.comI think probably everyone has heard of Yelp by now and that’s where people can do reviews of you and your business, actually just like Thumb Tack. You can also have people do reviews on FitnessProDirectory.com as well.
(4)www.Craigslist.comSome peoplehas been up a long time. have success with it and other people dwhat I’veon’t. Here’s learned: Thepeople who do not have success with Craigs List do not create an add that is descriptive enough to be indexed well on Google. Sowhat do I mean?I mean that they will not use a headline that says the geographic location of the specific service you offerChicagopersonal trainer certificationfor Women. It’s pretty obvious.Hey, you train women. You are apersonal trainerBut if you just say,and you’re in the Chicago area, right? “Personal Training Services –Free Initial Consultation,” well, how the heck is Google supposed to know where that is and how to index it?It just doesn’t work that well.Craig’s List can work well; you have to do it right. You have to be very descriptive and you have to have a very compelling offer.Have appropriate scarcity. Maybe you only offer it to 10 people.Be honest and if you say it’s only for 10, then only make it available for 10.If it’s until next Wednesday only, that’s how you get them in this week, right? Basically, within the next 7 days, make a time commitment; a time limitation. Youhave to get in the next 6 days or the next 7 days and that way you insure that you get people in your funnel right away and they can become your client, customer, or member of
7 Ways to Get 7 New Personal Training Clients in the Next 7 Days - Fitness Marketingyour facility.I do have some cool new stuff for Craig’s List coming out soon, so I will let you know about that. That will really, really pump that up for you. (5)Here’s another thing that you can do because this is different in every community, but I’ve done this in and it’s really worked well.Do a search on Google (probably on Google). You can use Bing or whatever, but Google is king, of course. So do a search for “List of Local Directories,” and it will give you a list of all of the local directors and most of the directories would have an indices indexing for each local geographic area. (6)Another search you can do on Google is “Online directory (or directories) in ________.For me, it would be Orange County. You can do one for the Chicago land area or one for the tri-state area; South Florida.I don’t know, whatever it is.But you keep doing all of these different directories like this and they get indexed very, very fast and when you write your listing, when you create your listing in any of these directories (Fitness Pro, Thumb Tack, Yelp, Craig’s List, or any of these local directories) make sure that you make them geographically specific. You can’t just say, “I’m a trainer.I do Pilates.I teach Krav Muga.”It’s got to be “Winning self-defense and fitness in Portland, Oregon,” you know, something very specific. And then the phrasing, the details, the tags and titles, the descriptions, the images, everything needs to be all relative to all of that without sounding ridiculously redundant because people have to know and Google needs to know where you’re located and specifically who you are and what niche that you’re in and your area of expertise. So these are things that can be implemented immediately and you get a result very quickly. Okay, let’s move on.3. Getout there and be seen. Well, that seems pretty obvious but I’d be willing to bet that it doesn’t always happen. Here’s what I see:Now, believe me, I am a huge proponent of Internet marketing.I love it; I study it as much as I studied physiology, nutrition and all of that good stuff and yet you can’t just hang out on theInternet all day.If you are in the trenchesif you are a trainer, a coach, a boot camp
7 Ways to Get 7 New Personal Training Clients in the Next 7 Days - Fitness Marketinginstructor, or if you do mind/body stuff, it doesn’t matter, whatever you do, if youdon’t get out in your community and be seen, you will have a hard time being successful. It is true that probably the two biggest ways people will ever find you for your services are through referral of existing clients or customers and in an online search. One and two, and it just depends on how you structure your business if it’s 1 and 2 or 2 and 1.But aside from that, it’s getting out there and being a figurehead in your community. There’sa lot of different ways to doing that. We’re talking about rapid results, getting 7 new clients in the next 7 days, so these are quick strategies to put money in your pocket so you need to get out there and put flyers, brochures, lead boxes, pamphlets, in beauty salons, nutrition stores, nail salons, day spas, and family-The reason I say “familyrun restaurants.-run restaurants” is because oftentimes the franchises or large corporately-owned restaurants have rules and regulations and they just don’t allow that kind of stuff to be left behind at the restaurant. Starbucks is cool, but they don’t have a community bulletin board. You’re not going to get anything in there. But oftentimes, the nail salonsWell, there’swho’s in a nail salon? some guys that go to nail salons. There are some kids that go in there every one in a while with their moms, but it’s mostly moms. Most often it is mom in a nail salon.Who are most of your personal training clients unless you are doing MMA fighting or elite sports conditioning for male athletes? It’s a female, probably a mom, 28So fliers,48 years old, so a nail salon is a good place. brochures, business cards, lead boxes, anything like that. Business cards are probably the least beneficial. Some sort of a lead box with a contest or something like that; some sort of free trial or somethingyou don’t want to give your stuff away, but some sort of free gift to incent them to come to your program. So get out there and be seen in your community as much as you’re doing stuff online.I think people rely too much online. It’s absolutely imperative. It will be No. 1 and No. 2, but if you eliminate or neglect getting out there and being seen in your community, you’re really doing yourself a disservice. It’s a good way to get people fast.
7 Ways to Get 7 New Personal Training Clients in the Next 7 Days - Fitness MarketingOne of my very best clients and then ultimately one of my best friends was because of a lead box (which I failed to put here) at a tanning salon. So if it’s spray tanning and not regular tanning, it doesn’t matter.Get some sort of flier or lead generation box at a tanning salon. That has worked very, very well.I did that almost 20 years ago so it’s pretty amazing. We’re still friends and now we just do different ventures together, but those kind of things can last a long time so make sure you leave no stone unturned. (4) Visityour local chiropractor. I have found chiropractors to be great allies in the local community. Mostchiropractors, as compared to medical doctors not always, but mostare more health and fitness oriented which is kind of why they chose that natural path of medicine rather than allopathic traditional medicine. It’s not always the case, but generally so.They know the importance of exercise. They are generally more in tune with how exercise and medicine and chiropractic care can all fit together and they’re asmall business. Theywant to grow and you can work out some sort of cross referral program. It tends to work very, very well and I highly, highly recommend working with your local chiropractor. Don’t just go to the first one you find because I love chiropracticI’ve been a proponent of it a long time.I’ve benefitted greatly from chiropractic care, but there are definitely some chiropractors I don’t care for.So make sure it’s the kind of doc that really has the patient benefit first and foremost in mind and that you are congruent with their ethics and business practices and that they’re just a good person and that you like them as an individual as much as a healthcare professional. (5) Geta magnetic sign or decal for your car. Now, some people don’t want to have this on their car and what can you do then is you just peel it off at the end of the day when you want to go out to a fancy restaurant at night and not be marketing yourself, so you can do a magnetic sign. You can get a decal which is kind of over the windows and side windows in the rear or the back window or you can do what is called a full wrap of your car and that’s where it starts looking like a moving
7 Ways to Get 7 New Personal Training Clients in the Next 7 Days - Fitness Marketingbillboard. Thecompanies we’ve worked with in the past are Fast Signs and they are franchised all over and then Foothill Sign is in Foothill Ranch here in Orange County, but they can help you with anything no matter where you are at.The cool thing about Foothill Sign companythey should still do itis they have a box that’s plastic with a spring-loaded lid on it that holds your business cards that you attach to the rear window of your car and you put a little sign in your window that says “Business CardsTake One” and I remember going to a swap meet or what we called a flea market or whatever you want to call it or even parked out in a busy parking lot or at an event like a 5K or a triathlon or whatever and all of the business cards are gone at the end of the event and you get a ton of new people because your car is a moving billboard or in that case, a car/billboard, but a billboard nonetheless, and it tends to work really, really well.A magnetic sign can cost $50 or you can wrap your whole care for $5,000. Now, obviously it depends on your budget and what youwant to do. I benefitted from this personally when I was teaching my Adventure Boot Camp and I had a black Hummer. It was when the Hummers first came out and it was huge and obtrusive and obnoxious and then you have lots of chrome on it (which is ridiculous when I think back about it) and then I had the big Adventure Boot Camp and logo and stuff with my web address on it. Andthis is no joke.I’m trying to remember exactly what it is. This now is 89 years ago, something like that, when I first did it and I would guess that I brought in $4,000$5,000 a month just from new business from the Hummer with the Adventure Boot Camp logo on it.That is not an exaggeration. It was crazy how well it worked.Part of it was because the Hummer was new and it drew attention and I kind of built it up crazy and ridiculous, but a lot of it was because of the bright colors and the big banners and stuff. Iremember people would email me and say, “Hey, I just saw you going down the street and I’m going to register right now online.” Itwas pretty amazing. So whatever you do, you need to make sure that if you do a magnetic sign or a decal for your car, do not just put your phone number.Youmustput your web address and, as you see here, if you look to the first web address there,
7 Ways to Get 7 New Personal Training Clients in the Next 7 Days - Fitness Marketingwww.FastSigns.com, I have the capitalized F and the capitalized S for Fast Signs. It’s just an easier visual reference as you’re driving by something fast to differentiate the different words and it allows it to stick in a person’s mind more easily.Obviously, if they put in upper case or lower case or whatever, it’s all going to get to your end destination just fine. But when you do a magnetic decal or sign on your car, that is the way to do it.Do your webaddress in upper and lower case.I would even make the web address more prominent than the phone number. It is easier to remember a web address if it’s simple and to the point, that it is a phone number. Thinkabout that.Make your web addressmore prominent. All right, that’s some good stuff.I promise you that will get you some business. You can also get a magnetic sign done at Staples or OfficeMax or whatever kind of place you have like that. You have to have a really strongit can’t just be like some abstract meaning that no one can orient with, can relate to.This is another lesson, really, but it can’t just be something that is not compelling with a strong call to action that makes people curious. You have to make people really curious and compelled to see what the heck this is all about. So don’t just do something, just add your phone number and say “personal trainer” on it.It’s got to have some umph. That’sanother lesson for another time, but that’s a quick note there. (6) Workwith your place of worship. Now, this is an interesting thing to you.Now obviously this is super, super personal to everybody. It can be your church or synagogue, your spiritual center, whatever it is to you, but faith-based health and fitness programs are on the rise and people tend to really like it and from what I can tell from the people I coach and work with is that it works pretty darn well. You get the support of the community and the people have a common belief and value system and that creates a stronger bond. You can do somethingI don’t know how your place of worship is structured, but if you have a place of worship, think about how you can work with them this week and I have a feeling that it will work for you
