T3R = Twist 3 sts to the right: Slip 2 sts onto cable
needle and hold in back, K1, K2 from cable needle.
T3L = Twist 3 sts to the left: Slip 1 st onto cable needle
and hold in front, K2, K1 from cable needle.
C8R = Cable 8 sts to the right: Slip 4 sts onto cable
needle and hold in back, K4, K4 from cable needle .
C8L = Cable 8 sts to the left: Slip 4 sts onto cable
needle and hold in front, K4, K4 from cable needle .
Front and Back: Make 2 alike.
Cast on 82 (92, 96, 110) sts. Work 4 rows in Garter
Stitch. Next row: P29 (34, 39, 44), *inc in next st, K1*
twice, P2, *inc in next st, K2* 4 times, P2, *inc in next
st, K1* twice. P29 (34, 39, 44). 90 (100, 110, 120) sts.
Next row: K29 (34, 39, 44), place marker, P4, K2, K16,
K2, P4, place marker, K29 (34, 39, 44).
Work the first and last 29 (34, 39, 44) in Reverse
Stocking Stitch (K on the wrong side, P on the right
side). Work the sts between the markers in Cable
Pattern as follows:
Row 1: T3R, T3L, P2, *C8R* twice, P2, T3R, T3L
Row 2 and all wrong side rows: P4, K2, P16, K2, P4
Row 3: K6, P2, K16, P2, K6
Row 5: T3R, T3L, P2, K4, C8L, K4, P2, T3R, T3L
Row 7: K6, P2, K16, P2, K6
Row 8: as Row 2
Repeat these 8 rows for pattern
Work all sts as established until piece measures 14
(14.5, 15, 15.5) inches from cast on edge. Cast off 15
(16, 17, 18) sts at beginning of next two rows. 60 (68,
76, 84) sts. Continue to work sts in pattern for a further
4.25 (4.5, 4.75, 5) inches, making note of the cable
pattern row. Cast off for shoulders, 14 (18, 22, 26) sts
at beginning of next two rows. Place remaining 32 sts
on a holder, taking note of the last cable pattern row
worked. Make the second piece, ending on the same
cable row before casting off for shoulders.
Sleeves:
With 5mm (US 8) needles, cast on 44 (48, 52,
56) sts. Work in Garter Stitch for 4 rows. Next row: P8
(10, 12, 14) *inc 1 in next st, K1* twice, P2, *inc in next
st, K2* 4 times, P2, *inc 1 in next st, K1*, P8 (10, 12,
14). 52 (56, 60, 64) sts.
Next row: K8 (10, 12, 14), place marker, P6, K2, P16, K2,
place marker P6, K8 (10, 12, 14)
Work the first K8 (10, 12, 14) sts in Reverse Stocking
Stitch while working the sts between the markers in
Cable Pattern as given for front and back. AT THE SAME
TIME, inc every 10
th
row from last row of Garter Stitch
until 72 (76, 80, 84) sts. Work in pattern until sleeve
measures 21.25 (21.5, 21.75, 22) inches. Cast off 18
(20, 22, 24) sts at the beginning of next two rows. 36
sts. Work the shoulder extension of sleeve in pattern
stitch for 3 (4, 4.75, 5.5) inches, ending on the same
cable pattern row as front and back AFTER shoulder
cast off.
Neck:
Slip the sts from the front holder onto a 5mm
(US 8) 40cm (16”) circular needle. Then slip one of the
sleeve sts onto the same needle. Slip the back sts onto
the needle and then slip the remaining sleeve sts onto
the needle. 136 sts. Place a marker for the beginning
and ending of the round, work all sts in Cable Pattern
for 4”. Work 4 rows of Garter Stitch (Knit one round,
Purl one round). Cast off loosely.
Finishing:
Refer to diagram and assemble as follows.
1.
Set each of the cast off edge of sleeves into
the side edge of armhole. The shoulder cast
off edge of front and back should meet the
side edge of the sleeve shoulder extension.
Sew in place.
2.
Sew the upper side edge of sleeve to the
underarm cast off edge of front and back.
3.
Sew side edges of shoulder extensions to
shoulder cast off of front and back.
Sew sleeve and side seams.
