ONLINE & INSTRUCTIONAL TELEVISION COURSES
Online and Interactive Televised courses are specifically designed to meet the educational life style of Yuba Community College District’s students. Students may take a course while at home, work, at a high school, or on another one of Yuba’s campuses. Depending on the selected course, some students may have to come to a District campus for an orientation, review, and examination. Are You Ready to Take an Online Class?
1. Do you have regular access to a computer? Yes _____ No _____ It can be at home or at school. You may need to access the class via the Internet two or more times per week. You may find yourself online an hour or more while taking a test or doing other work
2. Are you able to work on your own and are you a selfstarter? Yes _____ No _____ Online classes require you to take responsibility for your education. Things to think about include: do you complete assignments ahead of time, are you well organized, and punctual. Remember: You don’t have a class meeting every few days where the instructor can keep you on track
3. Do you have basic computer and word processing skills? Yes _____ No _____ You don’t have to be a computer expert to take an online class, but you need to be able to navigate the WEB, download materials, print materials, word process, use email and have other basic skills.
4. Do you have good reading and comprehension skills? Yes _____ No _____ Most materials for online classes are provided in writing – generally you will not hear lectures, you will read them. The textbook for online classes is generally more critical than in a regular class. If you are a poor reader, you are not ready to take an online class
5. Do you understand that you will spend the same amount of time, maybe more, in taking an online class than a regular classroom class? Yes _____ No _____ Online students do not necessarily spend all of the class time online. Many students print lectures, do assignments offline and do other typical class work, for instance, reading the textbook.
6. Have you taken an online class before and/or have you completed the Online Orientation? Yes _____ No _____ If you have not already done so, you should watch the Online Orientation linked off the Distributive Education HomePage: http://yubaonlineweb.yccd.edu/ or watch it live on Yuba College’s ITV channel prior to the beginning of each semester. For additional information call 5307416754.
