Dear Program Provider:  Each year, thousands of Chicago teens develop their talents and find their futures by participating in After School Matters programs. We are able to positively affect so many young lives thanks to our skilled and dedicated program providers — independent instructors and organizations committed to mentoring and sharing their expertise. As a result of our collective efforts, After School Matters has become the largest program of its type in the nation and a model for out-of-school programming that has been replicated in other U.S. cities.  As After School Matters approaches its 20th Anniversary, we are working carefully to strengthen our organization, align resources, enhance teen outcomes, and better reach those teens who will benefit most from our programs. We are proud to release this 2011-2012 Sports37™ Instructor Application As you will read in the following pages, this Application process will be significantly different from recent years. Notable changes to the Application are intended to be instructor-friendly and include:    One Application for Fall/Spring 2011-2012.   for both new and returning program providers thatA new two-phase Application process begins with a concise online Application.  Returning instructors who advance to Phase II will be given the opportunity to meet with  After School Matters staff to discuss pass performance.   given the opportunity to take a writtenNew instructors who advance to Phase II will be sports exam, practicum and interview.   Some of these changes were driven by After School Matters new strategic plan, which we invite you to read more about in this document. Other changes were driven by feedback we received from instructors about how we might streamline the process and make it easier to demonstrate capacity to deliver quality programs.  Please note that it is highly recommended that all interested instructors should complete the Phase I online Application by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13.Based on our review of the Applications, we will notify potential instructors in late May as to whether they will advance to Phase II of the Application process.  After School Matters will review and award contracts to both returning and new instructors in June for School Year 2011-2012. Some program providers may be placed on a waitlist.  After School Matters is incredibly grateful for the efforts of our talented and caring instructors. We appreciate your desire to make a difference in the lives of Chicago teens.
