SILENT AUCTION INFORMATION AND RULES

Benchmark

is an art exhibition and auction to benefit The Contemporary

Museum, Honolulu. The artist-made benches will be on view at various

locations on Oahu from September 14 through October 14, and at The

Contemporary Museum, Honolulu, 2411 Makiki Heights Drive from

October 17 – October 26. (The Museum will be closed to the public on

Monday, October 20).

Silent Auction Procedures

Silent Auction bids may be placed by phoning 808-237-5210 during museum

administration office hours from September 15, 8:30 a.m. until Friday, October

23, 4:00 p.m., or in person at the Museum until Sunday, October 26, by 4 p.m.

Bidders must register and leave credit card information (number and expiration

date). Registration for bidders is also available by downloading a registration

form from our website at

http://www.tcmhi.org

, and faxing the completed form

to 808-536-5970 by 4 p.m. on Friday, October 24. Incomplete forms will not be

accepted.

Place a Bid

Each item will have a starting bid and set bid increments. The highest valid bid

at 4 pm Sunday, October 26, is the winning bid. In the event of a dispute, the

Museum Director or her designated representative will determine the prevailing

bidder. Highest bidders will be notified by phone the week of October 27. If

none of your bids are successful your registration sheet will be destroyed. The

Museum does not retain credit card information.

“Buy It Now”

Each item has a “Buy It Now” price. If the current bid on an item is under retail,

you may offer the “Buy It Now” price to stop the bidding and purchase the

piece. Your credit card will be charged at that time. No holds are allowed.

Auction Payment

Successful bidders will be notified on Monday, October 27. The highest bidder

on each item will be responsible for payment by cash, credit card (MasterCard,

VISA, Amex or Discovercard), or check.

All sales are subject to a 4.712%

general excise tax. All sales are final with no exchanges or refunds.

Tax Deductibility

Successful bidders who wish to have a part of their bid considered as a tax

deduction should be aware of the following: if the amount of your bid

exceeds

the retail or fair market value of the item purchased, you may consider the

difference as a tax-deductible contribution. Please consult your tax professional

regarding how these guidelines may apply to you.
