This index comprises three parts : - a numerical list of cases
- an alphabetical list of parties
- a list of courts that have referred questions to the Court for a preliminary
ruling
1) Numerical list
The cases are listed in ascending order of the numbers assigned to them by the Registry. The
list of cases before the Court of Justice is given first, followed by the cases before the Court of
First Instance.
. Against the number of the case there is shown :
the names of the parties;
the date of the judgment or the order, followed by the ECR reference(s);
a cross-reference if the case was joinded, or transferred from the Court to the Court of First
Instance or vice versa;
where applicable, an indication that the case has been removed from the Register;
the indication "PENDING CASE" where appropriate.
2) Alphabetical list
. This lists, in alphabetical order and bold type, the names of the parties, indicating in each case the
name of the opposing party and the number of the case, followed, as appropriate, by :
the ECR reference of the judgment or order;
a cross-reference to the pilot case where cases were joined;
an indication that the case is pending or has been removed from the Register.
. Where several cases involve the same parties, each case is individualized by the name usually given
to the case, if there is one.
N.B. : To save space, the Commission of the European Communities is not included in the alphabetical
list. For cases in which it is concerned, reference should be made to the name of the opposing
party.
3) List of courts
This list is made up of the names of the national courts, by Member State and in alphabetical order,
that have referred questions to the Court of Justice for a preliminary ruling, and gives the numbers
of the cases before the Court.
