Application Testbed for European GRID Computing
EUROGRID
Scope The objectives of EUROGRID were to establish a European grid network of leading high-performance-computing centres.This involved the development, integration, operation and support of the EUROGRID software infrastructure using the existing Internet network to offer seamless and secure access for EUROGRID users. The operation of EUROGRID has demonstrated its capability to broker resources and to run distributed simulation codes from different application areas, including biomolecular simulations, weather prediction, coupled CAE simulations, structural analysis and real-time data processing.
Innovation and Functionality The project has realised the following overall achievements.
 Biomolecular simulation grid: a grid for biomolecular simulations has been implemented, tested and used to give feedback into the developments of EUROGRID.  Weather forecasting grid: a grid for weather forecasting has been implemented, tested and used to give feedback into the developments of EUROGRID.  CAE grid: a grid for CAE simulations has been implemented, tested and used to give feedback into the developments of EUROGRID.  HPC grid: a grid combining the resources of academic HPC centres has been implemented, tested and used to give feedback into the developments of EUROGRID.  Prototype production grid environment: the components for a prototype grid environment suitable for use in production have been developed and implemented.  Integration of components for a prototype production grid environment: the components for a prototype grid environment suitable for use in production have been integrated into a coherent system.
Positioning The UNICORE software and services based on it are not restricted to specic end-user sectors.The opportunity for using this software is characterised as follows:
