HandStory Suite 3.1 for Palm Tutorial
HandStory Suite 3.1 is an easy-to-use, multi-function Palm/Windows information suite consisting of HandStory Converter on your Windows PC and HandStory Browser on your Palm handheld device.
Use HandStory Converter to convert information, such as Web pages, text documents, and images, from your PC or the Internet and install it to your Palm device for viewing with HandStory Browser--anytime, anywhere.
HandStory Browser--the handheld component of HandStory Suite--combines a Web Clip Viewer, a standard DOC viewer, an eBook reader, an image viewer, and an enhanced memo pad, all in one application that's easy to use and easy on device resources.
Managing records
In List View, you can view the list of records, move records between categories, delete records, change record details, or create a new memo. Also in this view, you can access the program's main menu for finding text in all listed records, moving records from RAM to expansion memory and vice versa, updating Clips wirelessly, marking records for backup, marking records as read/unread, and setting preferences.
Renaming and deleting records
Let's try renaming a Clip.
1. Tap and hold the stylus on the title of a Clip in List view. When the file management pop-up menu appears, tap Details .
 2. In the Clip Details dialog box, edit the title and tap OK .
To remove a Clip, tap-hold the Clip title in List View and then tap Delete in the pop-up menu.
If you need to delete several records at once, it's easier to switch the tap action to Delete. You do this by tapping the word Del on the action bar at the bottom of the list. When Del is highlighted, tapping a record will cause it to be deleted (with confirmation). Filtering and sorting records You can make the record list display only records of a specific type or category; and you can sort records by type, name, size, or attributes.
To filter records by category, tap the Category Selector (located on the far right end of the title bar) and select a category.
To filter records by type, tap the Record Type selector (located just to the left of the Category Selector) and select a record type.
-> You can sort the record list by different criteria. Tap the appropriate column header to sort the list by type, name, size, or attributes. You can reverse-sort by tapping the same header again.
Moving a record to a memory expansion card Let's try moving a record to a memory card.
1. Tap and hold the stylus on a record title, and then tap Move on the pop-up menu.
 2. When the Move  dialog box appears, tap Move . The record will be moved to the memory card.

 4. When you're finished, tap to close and save the memo. The new memo will appear in List View.

Editing a memo in Palm Desktop
You can edit a memo on your Palm device using Palm Desktop on your PC. The next time you perform a HotSync, the copy of the memo on your Palm device will be updated.

Viewing Clips
->

You can convert the contents of a Web site to a Clip, update it periodically using HandStory Converter, and view it on the road using HandStory Browser. You can download Clips from the HandStory Clip Service web site, or you can create your own custom Clips from virtually any Web site.
Downloading a Script Clip
HandStory supports four types of Clips: Direct Clip, Custom Direct Clip, Script Clip, and Login Script Clip. Let's look at how to download a Script Clip from the HandStory Clip service site:
1. Right-click the HandStory icon ( ) on the system tray of your Windows PC, point to HandStory Clip Page , and then click the URL of the HandStory Clip service.
2. Select a Script Clip and click .

After Internet Explorer finishes downloading the Clip, the Script Clip Settings window will open automatically.
Updating the Clip
Now we'll configure a few settings for the Clip we just downloaded and then update it for the first time. Updating the Clip will download the content from the source Web site and convert it for viewing on the handheld device.
1. In the  Script Clip Settings  window, specify the mobile device user and the folder where the Clip will be saved.
2. (optional) Select the following options:

o Hi-Res : Select this if your handheld device has a high-resolution screen. o Images : Select the number of colors for images in the Clip. Choose a lower number if you want to save memory space. To prevent downloading images, choose "Do Not Convert Images". o To Card : Select this to save the Clip on a memory card rather than built-in memory. o Fast Clip : If you select this, the Clip content will be downloaded in pre-converted form from the HandStory Clip Server, rather than from the source Web site, whenever you update the Clip. This results in faster updating, but you may not always obtain the most up-to-date version of the Clip content. 3. Click OK . The Clip's name and details should now be visible on the list of Clips in the HandStory Converter - Manage Clips window.
4. To update the Clip, select it in the Clip list and click Update .
Note: If the Clip you downloaded is a Login Script Clip, HandStory Converter will prompt you to enter your user ID and password for the source Web site.
When HandStory Converter finishes updating the Clip, synchronize your handheld device to download the Clip to it.
In the future, you can quickly update a single Clip or all your Clips at once by right-clicking the HandStory tray icon ( ), pointing to Update Clips , and then clicking the name of the Clip you want to update or Update All Clips .
Setting an update schedule

By default, new Clips are set for manual updating, meaning you have to manually initiate the update process every time you want to update the Clip. If you want, you can set a Clip to be updated automatically according to a schedule.
1. Right-click the HandStory tray icon ( ) and click Manage Clips . The HandStory Converter - Manage Clips window will appear.
2. Double-click the Clip you downloaded before and then click Update Settings .
3. Select one of the following:
o Manually : The Clip will not be automatically updated. o Every week : The Clip will be automatically updated on the selected day(s) at the selected hour. o Every month : The Clip will be automatically updated once a month on the selected date at the selected hour.
4. Click OK .
Viewing a Clip

Now, let's view the Clip we downloaded and updated. Before proceeding, make sure you have synced your Palm device.
1. On your Palm device, start HandStory Browser. 2. In List View, tap the name of the Clip. The Clip will open in Clip View.
-> 3. Some Clips contain links to various pages in the Clip. To follow a link, just tap it. After following a link, tap to return to the page you were viewing before. Tap to jump back to the linked page. (These buttons work just like the Back and Previous buttons in a Web browser.) You can also tap to return to the first page of the Clip. 4. Try accessing the Clip View menu by tapping the Menu icon at the bottom of the screen. (Note: The Menu icon's appearance varies depending on your device model.) For more information about the menu, refer to HandStory Suite 3.1 Help .
