Click on Start in the lower left of the screen, glide up to Programs, select Microsoft PowerPoint, and click on it to choose the program. If you get a tip of the day, click OK. If not proceed, to the next step. On the right side of the screen, select AutoContent Wizard and click OK. Once in the AutoContent wizard, press the Next button to continue. Select the General button to narrow down the selections of templates from which to choose. Highlight Generic and click Next to continue. Choose Onscreen Presentation and click Next. Enter the information as follows: Presentation Title: Diaspora Women Click on Finish and you have successfully created a slide show. Step 2: Adding Content What appears on your screen is the title slide for your presentation. On the left side of the screen is the outline view of your presentation, which includes the nine slides you just created. We now want to add some information to our presentation. Step 1: Getting Started
YOU MUST BE VIEWING THIS WEBSITE IN INTERNET EXPLORER IN
ORDER TO CONTINUE!
Click on
Start
in the lower left of the screen, glide up to
Programs
, select
Microsoft PowerPoint, and click on it to choose the program.
If you get a tip of the day, click
OK
. If not proceed, to the next step.
On the right side of the screen, select
AutoContent Wizard
and click
OK
.
Once in the AutoContent wizard, press the
Next
button to continue.
Select the
General
button to narrow down the selections of templates from which
to choose.
Highlight
Generic
and click
Next
to continue.
Choose
Onscreen Presentation
and click
Next
.
Enter the information as follows:
Presentation Title: Diaspora Women
Click on
Finish
and you have successfully created a slide show.
Step 2: Adding Content
What appears on your screen is the title slide for your presentation. On the left
side of the screen is the outline view of your presentation, which includes the
nine slides you just created.
We now want to add some information to our presentation. To begin, click on the
number two in the outline on the left side of the screen. Now let’s add new
information to the slide.
If you would like to change the layout of the slide, click
Format
then
Slide Layout
, and the slide layout options will appear on the right
side of your screen:

Select this layout and click
OK
.
Next, click on the word “Introduction” at the
top of the page, and highlight it. Then type
the text: “African Queens.” Click outside of
the highlighted box to accept that title.
Click on the hyperlink (Egyptian Queens)

). Right click on the
image and choose
Copy
. Go to your
PowerPoint slide and right click and select
Paste
. The picture will automatically be
pasted to the graphics box on the right side
of the screen.
In the left-hand box make up some text to
accompany the picture. For example,
"Egypt’s long legacy of powerful queens is
often celebrated in artwork such as this
contemporary tapestry."
Repeat these steps to create slides 3, 4,
and 5 using the following files for images:

Step 3: Adding Sound
You will notice that slides 7 and 8 include sound clips. To insert sounds into your
presentation, first right click on the link above that contains the sound clip (either
audio 1 or audio 2). On the menu, click
Save Target As
.

Designate a place to save your sound clip (for example,
desktop, H: drive, etc.), and click the
Save
button. Then
go to the slide into which you would like to incorporate the
sound. At the top of the screen, click
Insert
,
Movies and
Sounds
. Then click
Sound From File
. Find the sound clip
you just saved, highlight it, and click
OK
. PowerPoint will
then ask you if you want the sound to play automatically. If
you would like the sound to play automatically, click
Yes
. If
you would like the sound to only play when you click the
sound icon, click
No
. Repeat this process for any audio
clips you would like to include in your presentation.
Step 4: Saving the Presentation
Now we are going to create a directory on the root of your computer and save
your presentation there.
Go to
File
and select
Save As
. Scroll down and click
C:
. Then click the
Create
New Folder
icon.
Name the folder after yourself, type the name of the presentation, and then click
Save
.

Step 3: Getting Pictures off the Internet & Inserting Them in Your
Presentation
Minimize your presentation by clicking on the second button to the left of the
X
in
the upper right hand corner of your screen.
Go to:
http://dickinsg.intrasun.tcnj.edu/diaspora/pics.html
Once the first image is fully loaded, right mouse click on the image and select
Save Image As
. Save as
Asante Queen
in the folder you created on your C:
drive.
Return to your PowerPoint presentation by clicking on the PowerPoint tab at the
bottom of your screen.
Go to Slide 8 and select an appropriate layout (one in which it is possible to
include both text and graphics). Then insert the picture of the Asante Queen. The
graphic is in the folder you created earlier.
Reposition and resize as needed. Also, add this narrative in the text box:
Asante Queen Mothers share power with their sons. As
Co-regents, both male and female are very powerful."
Step 4: Adding Visual and Audio Effects to Your Presentation
Click on
Slide Show
on the menu bar, and
Slide Transition.
On the right side of the screen, a
Slide Transition
box appears. Scroll to the top
and select
Blinds Horizontal
and
Medium Speed
. Under the heading
Modify
Transition
,
click on
Apply to All Slides
.
You may also add audio effects to your presentation from this screen. Under the
heading
Modify Transition
click the dropdown list labeled
Sound
. This list gives
you a multitude of options for adding sound effects to your presentation, such as
applause and drum rolls. Simply click the sound you would like to incorporate into
your slide show. If you would like to incorporate that effect into all of your slides,
click the
Apply to All Slides
button. If you do not click
Apply to All Slides
, the
sound effect will only be inserted on the slide that is currently on your screen.
Step 5:
View Your Presentation
Click on
Slide Show
, then
View Show
. Right mouse click to advance the slides.
