What is Medicare?

• Medicare is the federal health insurance program for: o People who are 65 or older o Certain younger people with disabilities o People with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant, sometimes called ESRD) • Medicare is partly funded by payroll taxes from most employers, employees and all people who are self-employed. The Medicare program oFers basic coverage to help pay for things like doctor visits, hospital stays and surgeries.

Medicare Part A

Parts A is known as Original Medicare. Part A covers inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health care.

This includes things like a shared hospital room, meals and nurse care. ït can also help cover the cost of hospice, home health care and skilled nursing facilities.

Medicare Part B

Parts B is also known as Original Medicare. Part B covers certain doctors' services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services.

This is care that happens outside of a hospital. ït includes things like doctor visits and outpatient procedures. ït also covers some preventive care, like Lu shots.

Medicare Part C

• Part C helps pay for hospital and medical costs, plus more. Part C plans are only available through private health insurance companies. Part C called as Medicare Advantage plans. This covers everything Parts A and B cover, plus more. • Part C plans put a limit on what you pay out of pocket in a given year, too.
