Albert- Jean-Louis Brun (1851-1929), pharmacien de l'Université de Berne, puis licencié es sciences à Paris où il a été l'élève de Ch. Friedel, a été pharmacien d'officine à Coutance (Genève) ou il a effectué ses recherches scientifiques.
A la suite d'un voyage au Stromboli en 1901, il se consacre à l'étude des phénomènes volcaniques, en chimiste, minéralogiste et géophysicien. Ses investigations le conduisent aux volcans méditerranéens -Vésuve, Etna, Santorin -, à Java, au Krakatoa, aux îles Canaries, au lac de lave fondue du Kilauea... Les résultats de ces recherches sont réunis dans un gros volume : « Recherches sur l'exalaison volcanique » dans lequel il élabore une théorie qui a été l'objet d'une vive polémique avec le professeur Armand Gautier de la Faculté de pharmacie de Paris.
Albert-Jean-Louis Brun (1851-1929), was chemist of the University of Bern (Switzerland) and « licencié es sciences » of the University of Sorbonne (France). In Paris he was a faithful follower of Charles Friedel. In Coutance (Genève), where he was working in his own chemistry, he realised all his researchs.
After a trip to Stromboli in 1901, he studied the volcanic phenomena as a chemist, as a mineralogist and as a geophysicist. His researchs brought him till the mediterranean volcanos - Vésuve, Etna, Santorin -, till Java and Krakatoa, then Canarian islands, and the lava lake of Kilauea, etc... The results of his works are collected in a big book called « Recherches sur l'exhalaison volcanique » : he presents a theory which was the subject of a polemic with the professor Henri Gautier of the professor Henri Gautier of the Faculty of pharmacy of Paris

Abstract

Albert-Jean-Louis Brun (1851-1929), was chemist of the University of Bern (Switzerland) and « licencié es sciences » of the
