Description
The geoarcheological approach to the marshland situated the valley provides a understanding of the history of the evolution and exploitations of an area. From the study of a paleontological core (Holocene period) we use several analytical methods -palynology, sedimentology, archeology and archives- so as to result in a more accurate analysis of environmental changes. The humid zone slowly develops by going through slight variations m the water-table level as well as in the rate of the flow. Only one significant dynamic rupture resulting in the erosion of Atlantic sediments is identified. The development of an alder peat-bog throughout the Subboreal and a part of the Subatlantic periods characterizes the stability of this environment. The phenomenon of anthropization remains unsignificant during the Gallo-Roman period on the surrounding hills that have obviously been deforested. While, from the Middle Ages onwards, it seems to be mainly linked to animal husbandery.
