  Assessment:    Module AR7050 is assessed by 2 essays (50%) and a project (50%). Modules AR7051 and AR7027 are each assessed by a practical test (10%), an essay (20%) and a report and project (70%). The option modules are assessed by a range of methods as detailed in the course handbook including skills tests, essays, reports and projects.   Qualifications Awarded: (i) Candidates who accumulate 120 credits from the taught modules and satisfy the examiners in the assessment for each module but who do not complete or pass the dissertation will be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma. (ii) Candidates who accumulate 180 credits, satisfy the examiners in each of the taught modules and submit a satisfactory dissertation will be awarded the degree of Master of Arts. Notes: (i) No candidate may be awarded the degree of Master of Arts and the Postgraduate Diploma. (ii) The degree of Master of Arts may be awarded with distinction in cases of exceptional merit. MA/Postgraduate Diploma in Art Gallery Studies Period of Registration:  One year full-time. Entry Requirements: Candidates should have at least a good second-class honours degree or equivalent qualification and be able to show clear evidence of vocational intention and aptitude. * Only compulsory for the MA   Assessment: (i) MU7030, MU7031 and MU7032 are each assessed by course work comprising a 4,000 word project/essay. (ii) Assessment of the Museum/Gallery project has two components each worth 50% of the overall mark. These consist of a group portfolio/product/project of no more than 1,500 words and an individually assessed oral examination. (iii) The museum/gallery experience requirement will be assessed on the basis of a report from the student’s line manager, a short project report by the student, which includes reflection on learning outcomes and experiences. (iv) Option modules are assessed by completion of an individual 2,000 word report/essay/paper. (v) Candidates may be permitted to resubmit the written assignment for no more than two modules. They are also permitted to resubmit the dissertation if required to do so by the examiners. (vi) The pass mark for the Postgraduate Diploma and for the Masters is 50%. Qualifications Awarded: (i) Candidates who accumulate 120 credits from the taught modules and satisfy the examiners in the assessment for each module but who do not complete or pass the dissertation will be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma. (ii) Candidates who accumulate 180 credits, satisfy the examiners in each of the taught modules and submit a satisfactory dissertation will be awarded the degree of Master of Arts. (iii) Either of the above qualifications may be awarded with distinction where the above criteria are satisfied and in addition, students achieve a credit-weighed average of 70%. (iv) Students holding the Postgraduate Diploma in Art Gallery Studies may convert this qualification to the MA upon successful application and subsequent completion of a 12,000-15,000 word dissertation. M.A. in English Literary Research Period of Registration:  One year full-time or two years part-time. Entry Requirements:  Either a first or good second-class honours degree. Course Aims:  To develop the skills and communicate the knowledge needed for research in any aspect of English studies from the early medieval period to the present day, particularly in relation to possible later research at doctoral level. Assessment: (i) The core modules are assessed by means of essays and an IT project. The assessment for option modules are as specified in individual course regulations. (ii) Candidates for the degree of Master of Arts will be required to submit a satisfactory dissertation of not more than 20,000 words in the case of the 60 credit module or not more than 30,000 words for the 90 credit module. (iii) Candidates may be permitted to resubmit the written assignments for one or more of the modules and/or resubmit the dissertation as required by the examiners. Qualifications Awarded: (i) Candidates who successfully complete two core modules HM7000 (40 credits) and HM7001 (20 credits) and do not proceed to Postgraduate Diploma/Master of Arts or fail to complete the Postgraduate Diploma/Master of Arts, will be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate.  (ii) Candidates who accumulate 120 credits from the taught modules (i.e. not the dissertation) and satisfactorily complete the assessment requirements for each of the modules will be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma.
