Description
The Weimar Republic, being at least partially an offspring of the Great War, had been stigmatized by this very war until her final collapse in 1933. Her leaders were initially suspected and accused to have stabbed an undefeated army in the back and signed the shameful treaty of Versailles. In order to guarantee public order and security the German Freecorps, first helped the Republic to overcome communist unrest. But, supported by the political Right and the Reichswehr, they effectively helped to destabilize the Republic and thus paved the road for Hitler and the Nazi Party.
