The American « Medicine Show ».
The author describes the origins, nature, development and decline of the « Medicine Show », an itinerant variety show in which pitchmen would interrupt the proceedings periodically for the sale of their tonics and remedies. This method of selling medicines in the United States did not begin until the middle of the 19th century and declined during the 1930's.

Der Verfasser beschreibt Aufkommen, Eigenart, Entwicklung und Abkligen der « medicine shows », eine umherziehende Variétéschau deren Vorstellungen periodisch unterbrochen wurden um Heilmittel zu verkaufen. Dieses Absatzverfahren zeigte sich in den Vereinigten Staaten ab Mitte des 19. Jts und verschwand allmählich in den 1930er Jahren.
