Peruvian Pre-Columbian Pottery and Pharmacy. Taking the opportunity of a scientific mission in Lima (Peru) in November 1976, we hoped to find among precolumbian pottery some objects relating to pharmacy and the administration of remedies.
Among Nazca and Mochica ware (200 B.C. to 900 A.D.) we saw some vases used in all likelihood for drug preparation, one representing a man addicted to coca. Moreover were observed old chuspas (coca purses) still in use.
It was very interesting for us to see the Andes mountains markets where many medicinal plants, like coca, are sold, as they were in ancient times, before the Spanish conquest.

Abstract
