Ber Buchbestand der Bibliotek der pharmazeutischen Fakultät Paris stammt aus dem 16. Jahrhundert. Im Jahre 1777 wurde er dem « Collège de Pharmacie » von der Gilde der « marchands apothicaires épiciers » als Schenkung übergeben. Bis 1880 ist die Bibliothek von dem Sekretariat der pharmazeutischen Hochschule abhängig geblieben. Dann wurde sie durch eine allgemeine Regelung im Jahre 1789 und durch eigene Regelung im Jahre 1882 als Universitätsbibliothek anerkannt. Von 1945 und bis 1972 gehört sie zu den Bibliotheken der Universität Paris, die eine gemeinsame Verwaltung haben.
Von 1884 bis 1922 wurde die Bibliothek von Dr Paul Dorveaux, Spezialist der Geschichte der Pharmazie, eingerichtet und geleitet. Er hat die Bestände beträchlich vermehrt. Zwischen 1922 und 1961 folgten vier Bibliothekare, die von dem Sorbonne kamen : Louis Barrau-Dihigo, Charles Beaulieux, Maurice Bernard und Gabriel Garnier (1936-1961), der die Bibliothek in ihren gegenwärtigen Gebäuden wieder eingerichtet hat.
Wie in der Vergangenheit, so wird die Bibliothek auch in Zukunft -unabhängig von ihrem amtlichen Status - wegen ihrer Lage und ihrer wissenschaftlichen Bestimmung mit der Entwicklung der pharmazeutischen Fakultät eng verbunden bleiben.
The Library of the Paris Faculty of Pharmacy was founded in the XVIth century from a donation of books transferred in 1777 to the Pharmacy College by the guild of the « marchands apothicaires épiciers ». Until 1880, the Library remained under the dependence of the secretary of the Higher School of Pharmacy before being regarded as a University library according to the general statutes of 1879 and to its own rules in 1882. From 1945 till 1972, it was part of the Paris University Library system.
The Library was organized by Dr. Paul Dorveaux, a specialist in the history of pharmacy, who directed it from 1884 to 1922 and greatly increased its holdings. Afterwards, between 1922 and 1961, four chief librarians, all coming from the Sorbonne Library, followed one another : Louis Barrau-Dihigo, Charles Beaulieux, Maurice Bernard, and Gabriel Garnier, one of whose main tasks was to move the Library to its present premises.
As in the past and whatever its statutes may be henceforth, the Library remains closely bound by its location as well as by its scientific purposes to the future of the Paris Faculty of Pharmacy.
