Pharmarcy in the French Antilles in the 19th century : recognition of a profession.
In the French colonies of the Antilles, where society was greatly restricted due to the institution of slavery, it was found necessary to adapt civil legislation concerning the healing arts. Following the naval pharmacists, the naval pharmacists, pharmacists « of color » were allowed to establish themselves at the end of the 19th century, and pharmacy became a profession both uniformly regulated and recognized as a means of social advancement.
Die Pharmazie in den französischen Antillen im 19. Jahrhundert : Anerkennung eines Berufes.
In den französischen Antillen, wo die Gesellschaft durch die Einrichtung des Sklaventums sehr eingeteilt war, musste die mutterstaatliche Heilwesen-Gesetzgebung angepasst werden. Nach den Marine-Apothekern konnten « farbige » Apotheker sich, am Ende des 19. Jarhunderts, niederlassen. Der Apothekerberuf wurde dann einheitlicher geregelt und als ein Mittel zur sozialen Beförderung anerkannt.
