Its very complex composition varied according to the times and according to the area, Montpellier having its own particular formula dating from the Middle Ages. Its preparation was the occasion for elaborate official ceremonies in the 17th century, due to Laurent Catelan. The sale of the product developed to include the whole western world owing to the famous fair at Beaucaire. The author gives precise details on theriac, the products which were used in its composition, those preparations which were quite specifically from Montpellier, and also details on the fair at Beaucaire Der Theriak aus Montpellier. Der Theriak genoss einen grossen Ruf von der Antike bis zum 19. Jht. Seine sehr komplexe Zusammensetzung war je nach Zeitalter und Länder verschieden.
