The islands of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon as producers of cod liver oil.
The islands of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon produced, for nearly a century, cod liver oil for industrial and medicinal usage. The methods of manufacture, the producers, and the volume of exportation can only be known to the extent that documentation can be found. This production of white or blonde oil, of excellent quality when the fresh cod livers were heat-treated in a bain- marie , contributed to economic growth of the islands and provided for the consumption of this medication in France and her colonies from approximately 1860 until the first half of the 20th century. Industrial manufacture gave way bit-by-bit to manufacture by local means for local needs, all of which has now disappeared.
Die Lebertranproduktion auf den Inseln Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon.
Die Inseln Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon produzierten während fast einem Jahrhundert Medizinallebertran (und auch zu industriellen Zwecken). Die Herstellungsverfahren, eine gewisse Anzahl von Produzenten und der Umfang der Ausfuhren sind soweit angegeben als die wiedergefundenen Dokumente es erlauben. Diese Produktion von weissem oder blondem Oel, von sehr guter Qualität wenn die frischen Gaduslebem durch die Hitze im Wasserbad behandelt wurden, trug dazu bei zum Teil einen wirtschaftlichen Antrieb diesen Inseln zu geben und den Konsum dieses Medikamentes in Frankreich und in den Kolonien sicherzustellen von etwa 1860 bis zur ersten Hälfte des 20. Jts. Der industriellen Herstellung folgte nach und nach eine handwerkmässige (fur lokale Bedürfnisse) welche heutzutag verschwunden ist.
