The Painted Panels of the Hospital Pharmacy of Valréas
The authors present twelve little-known painted panels from the hospital of Valréas (Vaucluse) dating from 1775, presently housed in the Valréas city hall. Six are decorated with floral subjects. Six others depict, often with great precision, a series of medical and pharmaceutical scenes : a consultation with pulse-taking, bleeding, enema, weighing drugs, preparation of plasters and grinding in a mortar. The panels are an excellent reflection of medicine and pharmacy of the times.
Tafelmalereien der Spitalapotheke von Valréas
Die Autoren zeigen zwölf wenig bekannte Tafelmalereien ursprünglich im Spital von Valréas (Vaucluse) und jetzt im Rathaus dieser Stadt aufbewahrt. Sie sind von 1777 datiert. Sechs davon sind mit Blumenmotive geziert. Sechs andere zeigen, öfters mit technischer Genauigkeit, eine Reihe von medizinischen und pharmazeutischen Szenen : Sprechstunde mit Pulsmessen, Aderlass, Klistiereinspritzung, Drogenabwiegen, Pflasterzubereitung, Mörserstossen. Diese Tafeln werfen somit einen hervorragenden Lichtschein auf Medizin und Pharmazie dieser Zeit.
