Er hat eine Théorie über die Wirkung der Medikamente vorgeschlagen, die auf dem Begriff des « fait primordial », einer somatischen Quelle aller Geistesstörungen, beruht. Die Wirkung der Medikamente wird durch eine sogenannte Substitution der pathologischen Phänomene durch die therapeutische Aktivität erklärt. Ferner hat sich Moreau de Tours um die pharmazeutischen Aspekte der Thérapie bemüht. Pharmacy, medications and psychiatryc. 1850 : the case of Jacques-Joseph Moreau de Tours The French psychiatrist Jacques-Joseph Moreau de Tours is known by his total organicism, by his work on hashish and by his pioneering efforts in favor of a considered psychopharmacotherapy. He also elaborated on a theory of the action of medications based on the concept of the primordial fact, the basis of all mental anomaly, and on the substitution, at the level of the primordial fact, of pathologic phenomenon by therapeutic activity.
